. . .Let me edit it first, but you just don't know that your HELP will be used. Thanks, so much, soror.

Hey Peeps,

Thanks to my homegirl, Ideal08, I now have a title. WHOO HOOOOOOO!! My burden is a little bit easier.

I also now have a job starting Monday.

God blessed and provided. I am working on looking for an agent. I have a book that is due here hopefully tomorrow or Saturday that is a more extensive book on agents. I also will be reformatting my manuscript since I did it all in 1.5 spacing and they want double spaced and no fancy fonts.

You all, it might take until the end of next year before my baby is on the shelves, but prayerfully I can do a website with a chapter from the book between now and then to drum up more interest.

Thanks again for all the congrats and well wishes.

Clearly you all don't know the standard time it takes for a writer to

A. Find an agent -- weeks
B. Have said agent want to read your manuscript -- avg. 2 months
C. Find a publisher to read your manuscript -- avg. 2 months
D. PUBLISH book -- average of 9 months - 2 years

I learned all of this last weekend reading 2003 Writer's Market.

I did not even mention editing process. It took Terry McMillan about 4 months to edit Disappearing Acts. I edited last weekend. LadyGreek is doing it now. My line sister has an editing company.

So trust me when I tell you. . . I will have 2 or 3 other books written before the first one hits a shelf. But it is all done in God's time and not my own. I could still be sitting here not even having written one word.

The race is not given to the swift. . .

Congrats CT4 on your new job!! I guess me and the rest of the GC peeps will have to wait patiently until the end of 2004.

BTW, how did the big CHOP go? (Yes, I'm being nosy)

Thank you for helping me to understand the process of writing/publishing a book.

In my opinion, you should write, go downstairs to the basement, run it through a machine....and PRESTO.....A finished product!!!

But then reality sits in and it doesn't work out like that......

I'll be there for ya!!!

Thanks ladies,

TRUST ME my bubble burst BIG TIME last weekend. When I saw one publishing company say it took 2 years to publish a book, I was all at once.

But good things and good books come to those who wait. Maybe by the time book #1 comes out, book #2 will take that much less time to come out.

The hair is gone and at first I hated it. Now I am beginning to accept it. . .I just have to get me some daggone earrings -- all of my old ones were stolen in 2000 and me the one who hates earrings never was pressed to buy new ones.

Cool

I mailed off about 18 query letters to agents on July 7 & 8; plus one was an e-mail query. Well the e-mail query immediately asked for chapter one but rejected it -- not enthused about it.

I went to my mailbox last week and there were 4 return envelopes -- all rejections.

Saturday I went again -- one rejection and one agent wanting to read the entire manuscript.

I mailed her (well actually my mom did) the manuscript today. She said it would take her anywhere from 2 - 4 months to respond. So keep me in your prayers that my endeavors are blessed. I finished E. Lynn Harris' memoirs today and when I got to his part about making the decision to write and how GOD worked everything out for him; I felt like he spoke to me.

I'll start working on book 2 after I come back from my class reunion in 2 weeks.

Thanks once again, LadyGreek, for reading the manusctript and editing it for me. Also thanks to LovelyIvy for reading my query letter and liking it.

Go had CT4, that's right you are doing the damn thing!!!! You have really motivated me to go through my short stories and seriously think about sending them out to magazines to see if they will publish them.

Ok, how was E. Lynn's book? I think I ordered it, but I'm not sure, so I'm waiting to see if it comes in the next few weeks. The snippet I read from it from Black Expressions seems like it was going to be good.
