I find it totally ironic that you mention freedom of speech and then in the same paragraph you talk down the protestors with "how dare they."

How dare they = freedom of speech. Freedom to live in a country and be able to be against something and what more....protest it. I mean really...it's a great feeling. To be able to oppose something and not face political backlash or punishment because of it.

There will be a time when just about every person on this board will be on the other side of the ropes, it helps to open the mind a little more.

I was going to say the same thing. Freedom of speech is accepting both you agree with and those who don't. Society does determine what is acceptable, and I had hope that does who are not deemed acceptable would not be harrashed (look into spearhead and how they are being monitor by the FBI because of their belive, is hoover alive again?) or threaten with their life (I herd that happen to some of the Dixie Chick band members). Harrashment (sp?) and threats is the same thing as book burning because it will create the creativity to a stand still.
Don't like it, don\t go to their show, don't buy their cds and don't listen to them. But don't create a hostile environment where they or any other artists feel threaten to speak our their mind.

I was sooooo right!!!!! One of the stations began taking calls yesterday afternoon asking whether the listeners were going to watch last night's interview or not. This morning, it's comments about the interview, whether their opinions of the DC changed, and if the music should be unbanned.

The funniest thing is that even though she made a big deal over taking the video off the air and did all her usual pre-release publicity whoring...on every media outlet other than MTV, Madonna's new album is being completely eclipsed by the Chixie Dicks debacle. BWAH HAH HAH HAH HAH!

Being from the south, I always liked them mainly cuz I thought their name, "Dixie Chicks", was so cute and catchy. However, this might have contributed to much of the backlash, considering much of Bush's support is from the south, and especially from Texas.

In the short run, their PR blitz might buy them some relief, but long term, the fan base that should be their most loyal won't be so forgiving.

Last night I watched Jay Leno when his entire audience were members of the navy, army, marines, and air force. When he mentioned the Dixie Chicks they all booed and jeered. This lets you that they feel strongly about what was said.

Let me comment further about this. ( i knew someone was going to say something!!!! ) I understand that they have a right to protest about the war. Protest all you want. I just find it a slap in the face that they did it in Norfolk! I just drove by, rolled my eyes, and said some not so nice things under my breath.

Not to get away from the topic (YET AGAIN) but my father served in the Navy for 28 years, on submarines during the Cold War. For those of you who don't understand why I am wording it that way, PM me and I will explain...I spent most of the Gulf War in the hospital with the fear he was going to leave. (Luckily he didn't.) A lot of brave Americans fought for that right to free speech. They most certainly had a right to protest. Yes they did. I was just angry that they did it in the same city that is SO DEPENDENT on the military to survive....THAT is what angered me enough to say "How dare they!"

The thing that really made me chuckle...they were protesting in front of the Norfolk City Jail. But they did have the right to protest all they wanted!!!

Now, we return you to back to the Dixie Chicks discussion!

Totally off subject, but Alan Jackson sang that song. Toby Keith sings the "Angry American" song. Both are pretty cool songs, though. Along with "Have You Forgotten" by some random person that I don't know.

We have a Clear Channel station here in Nashville, and they did not ban the Dixie Chicks. From what I understand, a lot of the stations that did it, did so because listeners were outraged and calling the stations asking for boycotts. I could be totally wrong. That's just the report that I heard.

Hi, Munchkin I don't think Kitso was implying that Clout9's education per se was inferior to his. He was just pointing out that her debate and writing skills are somewhat lacking. It's pretty rare that even the brightest people are good at EVERYTHING. My husband has an engineering degree from the US Naval Academy, knows how to run a nuclear reactor and can't spell worth a rat's azz.

On the actual topic, now that I realize it, they DO look airbrushed! Very creamy and taut for women who have squeezed out a few puppies...

Thank you for correcting me on that! I knew it was one of the two of them. I just had what my mom calls a 50 - 50 - 90 shot of getting it right. (50% it is one, 50% it is the other and 90% I pick the wrong one! )

Or maybe someobyd who is smart enough to leave early to avoid the traffic. It happen in all concerts. The reporter is just trying to create a name for himself. Too bad in back fired on him and make him look like an incompetend high school reporter.
