Keep looking up! I certainly had points in my journey when I thought that I had finally hit the obstacle that would stop me in my tracks. Now, I'm just weeks away from our official pledge ceremony, and I couldn't be happier!!

You can do it!!!!

Have you looked at Alpha Phi (yeah, I'm a little biased )? Good luck with this venture, whatever you choose!

The most freaking oddest ironic thing happened. Right when EVERYTHING is in shambles, I get an e-mail from Phi Sigma Sigma saying are interested in recolonizing here!!!!!! *screams*

Everything is in shambles, so it all just really stinks right now..and then the e-mail just topped it off It's like when I needed the e-mail, I had nothing..then when I get it..I have nothing to WORK WITH!! Sorry everyone I'm upset..but this really does bug me. Looks like there will be no new soro as of this next semester..as of this point I'm clueless on what to do and how to do it

*sighs* Kayla

I TOLD you y'all used to have Phi Sigma Sigma! *to myself: "How come no one ever listens to me? Eh?"*

I don't know much about Phi Sig because we don't have it at UK anymore...it's long gone. But from what I've heard, it's a good organization--it just doesn't get a lot of attention because it's smaller than the big-name groups. Maybe there would be renewed interest in your sorority if people knew that a national organization has expressed interest in colonizing. If I were you, I'd e-mail Phi Sig and tell them that you are interested in bringing a national to your campus and ask if they have any tips. Maybe if they contacted the university, something could be arranged where you didn't have to go through all that establishing a local stuff first. I don't know. It's worth a try, though, isn't it?

Just wondering how things were going, since I haven't seen an update in a while.

TKESweetheart,

I think it's great that Phi Sigma Sigma wants to recolonize! I think the fact that a national sorority wants to colonize there will greatly affect interest !

At the university I first attended, no one paid much attention to greek life until NPC sororities were interested in colonizing. It even boosted recruitment for the males (interestingly enough ) It was really exciting to get emails all summer before formal recruitment from interested women about the organizations.

I hope you continue your journey and come out strong in the end!

I just stumbled on your thread and have been reading through it...there is a similar thread in the rush forum (?) I believe...
It's so awesome that you're doing this! I don't think that a lot of us appreciate the work it takes to create a new chapter because we found what was right for us in a sorority already established on campus.
Don't give up even when things seem awful. I would hate to see you miss out on the all the joys and oppurtunities of sisterhood..
One thing that got mentioned on the other thread....these posts serve as a kind of journal of the founding...they would be a good thing to save for the history of your chapter. For our chapter, we know quite a bit about the history of our sorority nationally, but the local history is not really emphasized. About Phi Sig....Delta Rho 1986 Rio Grande College, Rio Grande, OH....is that the inactive chapter? If so, you would have alumnae support. Maybe you could find some of the Alum in your area.
I'm I Phi Sig, so it's kinda exciting for me....
Hang in there! Phi Sig or not, this is something worth doing!!

Sorry it's been a while since I actually posted something important. Finals is this week so no one is around. We lost one of our main girls due to her thinking that being a lil sis to a fraternity is more important then an actual GLO. (If you sense bitterness you're correct, hehe) Hopefully *crosses fingers* we (the remaining) can actually get things rolling again next semester. But here's the interesting thing, another soro is trying to rush me..sheesh. (Yes, I've told them about the new soro even..) I've told Erica about the Phi Sigma info, it's just getting everybody else in on it. Oh, the group that was formally Phi Sigma is still around, but, as a local. (it's the group that wouldn't have had their vote anyway, lol) Okay, I guess I'm going to go e-mail Phi Sigma now, heh

-Kayla

ps- Lynzi- thanks for the info about the former chapter
Dana- yes, I do listen to you, lol

I just had a great idea--why don't you see if the sorority that's rushing you wants to affiliate with a national? *well done, Achtung!* If you like the girls, you can join that sorority and then there will be some numbers to work with. Assuming, of course, that that sorority wants to go national...but hey, it seems like a good idea.

And hey, if Phi Sig wants to colonize, why not offer yourselves up to them? Say, "We want to go national ... you want a colony ... let's make a deal!"

Dana- Well, the soro that's been rushing me want to go national, yet, the only thing that's really holding them back is that 'it's too expensive'. Also, I really like the girls..but I don't feel comfortable w/their pledging process, w/o saying too much, if they were national, their charter would already been pulled.

Fuzzie- Heh..I'm trying to get as many as possible to take us..lol j/k

Quick thing before I go back to studying for finals. This is the thing I'm going to rant about for the time being..the girls expect me to do everything. Last time we had a 'formal' meeting I asked them if they could pull together a small constitution and all, I even gave them a few const's to look at yet, nothing came back. Oye. And I'm still getting the feeling they're just in it to get some letters..except for one. Okay, I'm finished for now..heh

Going national doesn't have to cost *that* much, especially since you all don't have houses. That's a HUGE expense right there. If we didn't have this house, my chapter wouldn't be paying the parlor fees, furnishing fees, etc. that we pay now.

If you did go national, the pledging process would definitely change, so don't worry about that! But in the meantime, just do what my dad did when he was a pledge...one day an active whacked him with a paddle, and instead of saying, "Thank you, Sir, may I have another?" like he was supposed to, my dad said, "Hit me again, Sir, and I'll kick your a**." But you've gotta mean it...
