WOW

You know what? I know folks want to say a LOT right now in this thread about that stunt they pulled, and this is EXACTLY why this couldn't have been a NPHC sorority

I feel everybody on this but I'm sorry, I've been in that situation where someone died and friends around me didn't handle it well. I would of said that same thing to both of them. But the respect and DEFERENCE is so non-existent here, it's pathetic.

And what's bad is Mara acts like she doesn't know what the big deal is? What What What????

BTW, the real Mara(we think) has posted in the General Forum thread in "sorority life part 1 million".

Okay, I have tried and tried to avoid getting sucked into this show, but every Monday night I am right there watching the mess happen before my very eyes. I posted a little rant on Sigma on another thread, and apparently I'm not even close to working out my feelings about this so I've decided to intrude on your thread as well.
Okay, this has gone from stupid, to terrible, to dangerous to disgusting.
Their "rush" was silly, the chapter went in very divided on the fact that they wanted to be a Jewish sorority and have Jewish women as members. That division and their subsequent laying aside of their founding values resulted in, I think, a very strange mix of new members. (Although who I am to judge the ones who never, ever are on TV.)
The leadership of this chapter is constantly surprised by every single thing that happens. Excuse me, but if things were going to hell in a handbasket from the get go, maybe someone should get the idea that some true direction is called for. If I see Leah, Becca or Rachel blinking their eyes in shock, like little new born doe again, I am going to flip. Come on! The pledges left a lock-in to drink and go to starbucks! The Vice President saw them! HELLO!? They acted like the sisters were making them do their taxes. Weren't they even a tiny bit interested in getting to know the other pledges with whom they would be forming a bond of life-long friendship? No, guess not, I mean, how could that be more fun than a shot of vodka or a frapaccino?
I cannot stand the way the Sigma sisters presented the house rules and the rules against drinking and drugs. They did so with a wink and chuckle, as if they were afraid of not being liked by telling these girls drugs weren't allowed. Pardon me, maybe I'm losing touch, but drugs are still illegal, right?
What kind of values do the current Sigma sisters have if they do not have the personal werewithal to simply say, "we do not tolerate drugs or alcohol at any time, if anyone is found using these substances within the house they will be immediately dismissed." That is not hazing, that is a standard. And if you don't stand for something you'll fall for anything.
The six pledges that we see on MTV are frightening examples of self-obsessed behavior which they seem to think passes for some sort of "individualism." No, it doesn't. It is not an act of individualism to satisfy your every petty need; that is called selfishness. The pledges act bored at any and all sorority events and are drunk the rest of the time. (Maybe that's harsh but that is what it seems like.) They're sense of entitlement is jaw-dropping. They actually resent having the other pledges in their house! Has anyone mentioned to them that they actually do not own the pledge house? Cause maybe one of them thinks their father put it on his credit card.
The formal, the formal, oh, the formal. First, it was a really lovely room. Trust me, as an 19 year old woman I would have just enjoyed eating my salad and my dinner and been happy to have a pretty dress on at a beautiful hotel. I suppose I'm just a simpleton, because for our Sigma pledges the formal was a dud! The action was really at a local bar, or of course, popular with most women, at a strip club. I don't know about you but I long for the days that my sorority sisters and I would hang around strip clubs paying for lap dances, oh, I'm getting a tear in my eye just thinking about it.
Okay, my post is just denegrating as write. Oh well, that's how bent out of shape I get about this Sigma thing.
I just don't see them exhibiting basic manners. What happened to civility? I'm not going to even touch the words respect or friendship because I don't think these women are ready for those concepts.
Okay, I'm finshed ranting on this subject for now. Thanks for giving me the room.

Angry IMO

I finally got the pleasure or displeasure of viewing the show. All I kept think was i badly i wanted to jump through the TV and yell "*edited*" I can't believe the nerve of these young ladies ("ladies" is used very loosely). Where is the respect? The interest? The reverence? Before i was blessed with AKA, there was no way I was going to leave any event to go to a strip club(?!?!). If there is one thing that i learned was that you are only as strong as your weakest link. The Sigma's need to really take that saying to heart when looking at these prospects.

Kudos to the members of SAEP that suggested a "selection" process (hello...y'all should have thought about that before Rush) for deciding who among the pledge class should or should NOT be initiated. Kudos to those members who also suggested that the pledges who would not be initiated could opt to pledge for another semester...to prove themselves worthy. (LMAO at the possibility of a them having a 1 year pledge process)

Boo to the members of SAEP who voted against the selection process, citing that they didn't want to be a "selective" type of sorority.

LMAO of at the pledges who went to Vegas and were actually "surprised" and upset that there was a possibility that they would not be iniated.

I was expecting more from this show. Hello? Drama? None really.

I see 4 of the house girls actually sticking with it but Jordan is a definite de-pledge. Sucks cause I like Jordan the most, but oh well. Sure to be drama around that! Like her mama said...

What? Dede got air time??

Ok, how about during the sisters' meeting, MTV showed that one chick talking about how she regretted the "whole thing" and "it" sounded like a great idea at first, but now "it" is a mess? How about I think that she meant letting MTV in their process? How about MTV left that part out, LOL?

I loved this series, but I don't think a second one will be as good. Everyone will know what to expect, and MTV obviously has their own motives. And goodness gracious, if MTV can find things that these girls HAVEN'T done...

From the preview of next week's show, it looks like Jordan doesn't go through with it. Did you notice her yelling at Amanda, and asking her why she wanted to be apart of Sigma?

IMHO, some of the girls in the house never really showed any type of TRUE interest in the sorority. To them, it was probably just something to do.

ACCORDING to website info, in the sequel to Sorority Life (which actually becomes two shows- Sorority and Fraternity Life) MTV has reserved the right to PICK THE PLEDGES

I am just shocked and appalled. They're doing it for a house, but ultimately it will NOT be worth it- the kind of disunity that pledges picked by MTV would foster could possibly, heck PROBABLY destroy the chapter.
