Movies that people have recommended as a "must see", and you were like...Seriously?
Has anyone ever recommended a movie to you as a "must see", and when you saw it, you thought it was awful?
I have a few, but I'm sure other movies will come to mind as I read what others have posted.
1. Pulp Fiction
2. Carrie
3. The Shining
4. The Last Emperor
5. Devil in a Blue Dress
6. Pretty Woman
So far..

Any movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger. I'm sure I'll have more later.

Totally forgot about him. I just don't like him as an actor. He's awful.

I like movies, books & stories, and it takes me a lot to actually hate one, but I really want those two hours of my life back.

Silence of the Lambs (it took me 3 tries to get through it without falling asleep)
Singles
Beverly Hills Cop (not awful, just the result of excessive hype before I finally saw it)

I also yawned at Rushmore. It was disappointing.

That's exactly what I thought of when I saw that post! Great minds.
Am I the only female who just was not into Dirty Dancing at all?

Nope. I was never into it either.
I liked Patrick Swayze but I can't think of any movie of his that I liked. Including Ghost which was just stupid.

My favorite Patrick Swayze movie is "To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar."

Atonement made me angry it was so bad. I have a hard and fast rule that The Wizard of Oz gets to have it all be a dream but NOBODY ELSE DOES. If it turns out to all be a dream, I want my money back. The day I saw that I snuck into Sweeney Todd so I could feel better. And I did. I really enjoyed that one!
I also don't get it about Pretty Woman, but when I was a concierge in Chicago I used it as a benchmark for when to suggest Miss Saigon. With as straight a face as I could muster I would ask if they loved Pretty Woman. If they did, then they would love Miss Saigon. If they hated it then I steered them away. And that worked every time. The hooker with a heart of gold story has been done to death and I find it well beyond cheesy.

As much as there is to love about the The Wizard of Oz, it fundamentally screwed up the story as far as I'm concerned. I hate how it's all a dream -- sort of ruins it for me.

Yeah, I had forgotten that they sort of combined North & South into one character for almost everything after Baum's books. Still doesn't change my opinion on the movie. It's a good thing Zach Braff is adorable, or I would have wasted 2 hours.
