Symbol "Quirks"
Inspired by the Theta kite thread....
Elephants trunks up....
Crescents waxing or waning...
Angles of arrows...
What are some "rules" or details about your symbols that others may not know?
ASA crowns are 4-Point crowns, due to the number 4 being special to ASA...however our badges and etc seem to only have 3 points. This is because the 4th point is directly behind the middle point, which you wouldn't be able to see looking straight on.

Alpha Xi Deltas Quill is to placed at an angle as if writing with it.
The way I learn to place my Quill was to place my right thumb were the collar bone meets spread my fingers out about an inch apart and place the Quill in between the middle finger and ring finger.

Our crescent should always be a waxing crescent. I cannot tell you how INSANE it drives me to see so much Gamma Phi merchandise with a waning crescent. I will not buy anything with the crescent facing the "wrong" way.

Yes! I know the feeling! And for what its worth, the Gamma Phi crescent helped me pass astronomy...if I couldn't remember the difference between waxing and waning I just thought of our symbol!

I'm exactly the same way when it comes to my crescents. My friends get very annoyed when I see crescent stuff and I say, "I'd buy it, but the moon is facing the 'wrong' way!"

Sigma Chi badge - the badge is worn angled with the top of the cross toward the left shoulder. Do you know how many times I've heard, "You're badge is on crooked"?

TKE's badge is also worn at an angle. I've gotten the "your pin is crooked" from people as well.

Its the same with our badge.
Also, Delta Chi has red and buff (a tanned shade of yellow) which we share with AGD.

So hard, but I've gotten it down to a science. It boggles my mind that some badges aren't supposed to be "straight."
One of my pet peeves is when printed depictions of our badge have a non-gold center. The chi is underneath the delta, why wouldn't you show it through the hole?
eg.

I'm just saying.
I also get irritated when people refer to us in writing as EK. Sigma and Epsilon are two totally different letters.

Royal blue and gold gets us items made in sky blue and orange, navy and yellow (or beige)... its a hot mess. And my graduate chapter has an Eta and Sigma in its name. H gets replaced w/ E, and Sigma gets replaced with... E again... its a mess too.

We also have to have our royal blue printed a specific way or it shows up at purple.

While that makes sense, it just means Tri Sigma is always sailing east. LOL.
On a related note: it would be obvious that our poodle should be in a neutral (black/white/tan) color but ideally in royal blue/gold. 99% of poodle ANYTHING you'll find is pink or sky blue. Which makes it that much more special when i DO find a neutral or royal blue/gold poodle.

Unless I am facing south looking at my computer... then it's facing west..
Regardless, ever forward

I've only seen it happen once or twice, but I HATE when I see the crown, book, stars and anchor on our coat-of-arms in the wrong place! How it should be:
And our badge is not a "weird" or "retarded" star ... yes, someone actually said that to me.
If you don't know what it is (and you shouldn't if you're not in the sorority), and you can't comment intelligently about it, don't say anything at all. K thanks

I've kind of envied members of those GLOs whose badges aren't supposed to be straight. If you're, say, a Pi Phi, it doesn't matter at what precise angle you pin your badge as long as the arrow is pointing up. If you're an AEPhi, your badge has to be horizontal. "OK, let me pin my badge onto this silk blouse... crap, not quite horizontal... OK, let me re-pin it... crap, still not quite right... <several attempts later> OK, finally right, but the 'left chest' area of my blouse now looks like Swiss cheese. I hope the dry cleaner can do something about that."
As for colors, we use green and white, but we don't specify a particular shade of green - although I think the white would have to be pure white. (#FFFFFF )
