So in the end we reminded each other:

To always keep other outlets open in your life so you don't put your all and everything into your mate. And relationships take a lot of time and effort and it won't always be equally distributed.

Finally saw the movie. Now I see why most of the posts in this thread don't really address what the movie meant by the 80/20 rule.
