[Bear Bryant = minor god in most of the country. Anything less is akin to blasthemy!

I may have to change my identity after admitting this, but I know the guy who stole Bear Bryant's hat after the GA-ALA game of '76 (I think it was. It was about the only time Ga beat Ala so it should be pretty memorable.)

I saw an ESPN segment about this a couple of years ago. Did he do an interview with the media recently or is his identity still unknown? Does he still have the hat?

Bare Bear
I'm sure he must have the hat but I don't think he gave an interview. My husband's fraternity brother was one of the trio who rounded the bases with Hank Aaron when he broke the record and I know he has been interviewed some. UGA evidently attracts some athletic miscreants which may come as a complete shock to many of you.

Hi, Buttonz. A lovely woman from my hometown pledged SDT at Bama. I wrote her a Phi Mu rec. I know she will be a fantastic addition to the chapter (because not only do I know her family but I saw her outstanding resume).

So what is Campus Total since there seems to be a wide range of chapter sizes?

So what is it going to take to get GPhiB to have enough members to be the same size as the other chapters? Will they? Or will they always be smaller? Seems that at 130 they are down almost an entire pledge class.

Total is 180....and other than SDT and Gamma Phi Beta, which are both special cases, there really isn't a large range of numbers...all the others are way over total.

How are the houses allowed to be so far over total? Are there no regulations?

There are regulations but on many campuses, groups can go over total by taking quota during formal rush. And when you have pledge classes of 80 girls and don't automatically adjust total, I think it happens a lot.

I think if they limited quota any more, you'd have too many women with no place to call home. I don't think you can assume that limiting the number of women the big groups take will necessarily trickle down to the smaller groups...especially since SDT doesn't even participate in formal recruitment. By the way, Gamma Phi Beta doesn't look like it's suffering with low numbers...the picture of their new member class is impressive!

Thank you, AOII Angel. Gamma Phi is by no means suffering with our numbers. 130 women is more than enough to sustain the chapter for the time being, and factoring in graduating seniors, I know that Gamma Phi will be at total of 180 by next fall. Total was JUST raised from 140 to 180, so we're really not that far off. The new pledge class (now numbering 73) is A-MAZ-ING, and numbers-wise, we're simply playing catch-up from 2 and 3 years ago. The past two years of Recruitment have resulted in great numbers for Gamma Phi.
