Yeah, since we'll never know what that *thing* was, can we at least get the update on your Prefs??? Please?

The rho chi's told us we could leave as soon as they handed us our schedules (they knew some people might get upset). I sat as Amanda called out each girls name to hand them the schedule (Gina had disappeared by this point - her grandmother had passed away and she had to leave suddenly leaving Amanda as our only Rho Chi). She finally got to me and pulled a handful of teabags out of her pocket, put those in one of my hands, and placed my schedule in the other. I turned around and took a few steps away, a deep breath, and opened it.
Cappuccino
Mocha
I ran back to my dorm before anyone else could get there, sat on my bed, and cried. It wasn't that I didn't like the choices I had left, but I had no clue what had gone wrong with Espresso. Was it what I wore? Did I say something? Or had they finally realized that I wasn't a walking model of perfection? After about 10 minutes, I pulled myself together and stepped outside. The emotional scene was what it had been the day before, only multiplied by about 50.
I walked down the hall and found Lisa in Kate's room. Kate had been invited back to both Cafe Au Lait and Ristresso for prefs - and so had Lisa. She had been dropped by Mocha and was clearly upset about it. We sat there telling her she should go to prefs and if she didn't feel at home anywhere to just drop. We finally had her set on the deal when in burst Lola in tears. She had been cut by Latte and would be going to Cappuccino and Cafe Au Lait for prefs. They were all shocked when I told them that Espresso had dropped me. As the tears started to mount again I reminded them that at least we all were going back to 2 preference parties, some people were only going to one - we were lucky in that aspect.
I pulled it together and walked back to my room to start getting ready. I saw Ashley crying to her roommate at the end of the hall. French Press and Americano had dropped her and she would be preffing at Latte and Cappuccino.
At this point I had had about as much as I could take. I went into my room around 8:00 and emerged around 9:30 in my pref dress with a cup of hot tea in hand. I calmly walked over and waited outside Cappuccino.

99% of people out there know the schools I'm talking about so feel free to have some fun and guess the chapters if you wish.

Me, too. I'm always amazed when people know at which school a PNM is, right out of the gate!
Or maybe I just like the surprise aspect?

Prefs
I waited outside Cappuccino towards the back of the line as we slowly inched forward. Finally it was my turn to go in and a girl at the door announced, "The sisters of Cappuccino welcome LOVE." A cute little blonde girl whom I had not met before took me by the arm and led me to a table in the middle of the room. There were little fish bowls with red flowers coming out of them and pebbles surrounding them on each of the tables around the room and the sister took a pebble and one of the flowers and gave them to me to hold. I listened as several members stood up and spoke about their experiences in Cappuccino and how much their sisters had meant to them. They sang a few songs and finally my rusher escorted me down a red carpet to the front of the room to place my flower in a vase with the rest. Then we walked towards the door where there was a bowl filled with water. She told me to throw my pebble in and make a wish. I did and she leaned over and whispered to me "I hope your wish was the same as mine." I left feeling a little underwhelmed. These girls were very sweet, but I felt like there was something missing.
I had about 20 minutes before pref at Mocha. I saw girls lining up outside Espresso for their pref party and looked away to keep myself from getting emotional. I had felt so strongly about them after their last party - and I had just gone to pref at another chapter, which was supposed to be incredibly touching, and didn't feel anything special. I started wondering if I was going to fit in anywhere. I even debated not going to my second pref and just rushing again the following year. Just when I was starting to psych myself out, Amanda happened to walk by and she could tell I was upset. "You really liked Espresso, didn't you?" she asked and I nodded my head. She, in more words, told me that sometimes the chapters have a better idea of where you're going to fit in then you do. Sometimes you meet one person in a chapter that you connect really strongly with and it turns out they're the minority. She calmed me down and I got in line outside Mocha.
I was welcomed at the door as I had been at Cappuccino and greeted by another girl I had not met before. As we walked in I saw my rusher from the day before across the room and she gave me a discreet wave hi. My rusher sat me down in a chair and knelt next to me. She asked me if I was nervous and I told her a little. She just had a very calming presence. She told me why she had chosen Mocha and all of the wonderful people she had met and experiences she had over the past year. After a little while everyone got quiet and we moved to another set of chairs that were arranged in a semi circle facing the front of the room and my rusher stood behind me. She gave me a white flower to hold as we listened to a member play the piano and 3 girls sing a song. A sister stood up and gave a little speech about Mocha and then the girls behind the PNMs started saying a poem line by line. After that was finished, a girl at the front of the room started singing - and she was singing the same song that Espresso had sung at the end of their skit! But this time it had an even deeper meaning to me. I started bawling, and the girl behind me rubbed my shoulders a little bit to calm me down. Finally, we walked to the front of the room and I returned my flower to the vase before my rusher escorted me out.
There was no doubt in my mind who I would list first on my preference card, and I turned it in quickly:
1 - Mocha
2 - Cappuccino
I saw Lady on the way out - she had pref'ed Mocha first as well and Macchiato second which surprised me. Amanda told me I'd get a call by around midnight if I hadn't received a bid.

The only reason I knew which one this was I happen to have saw the Oprah epsiode where those twins got a full scholarship to Wacko U plus some more. They defnitely deserved it. Plus she mentioned that everyone she went to high school with was going to go greek plus most of their parents were greek. To me this gave it away but hey I could be totally wrong and guessed incorrectly...but hey its retro not current. It's not like we are going to wreck her recruitment
ps. I can't wait for bid day!

Because I have absolutely no patience, I now present to you...
Bid Day
We gathered in a room in a building at the OPPOSITE end of campus from the chapters. Amanda had us all sit down and had bids sorted by chapter. Most of the stories I've read had all of the bids handed out and the PNMs opened them all at the same time, but Amanda said the name of the chapter and then announced their new members. She started with her own chapter, which was......Macchiato. HUH? Amanda was a Macchiato? I definitely wouldn't have guessed that one. 10 girls from my recruitment group were new members of Macchiato.
She then announced that Gina was a member of Cappuccino (which I already knew from the slide show). She then announced the 3 new members of Cappuccino from our group. My name was not one of them. I knew what that meant and tried to sit patiently.
Finally, she announced the 3 new members of Mocha from our group. I opened my envelope and was thrilled to see that the sisters of Zeta Tau Alpha had invited me to become a part of their sisterhood!
The other two girls who went Zeta from my group were non other than Lady and Sally! We ran over to Zeta, met our new sisters, were showered with gifts...and lived happily ever after, the end.
Wrap up
Lola and Lindsay both became a very proud members of Cappuccino
Lisa and Kate are both members of Cafe Au Lait
Ashley turned out to be a very sweet girl once rush was over and is an active member of Latte
Shall I post a key now?
