Either my school doesn't comply or there are circumstances which allow some buildings not to have elevators. There's a building on my alma mater's campus that, to this day, doesn't have any elevators. There's a handicap ramp and a handicap accessible bathroom on the first floor where the conference rooms are. But, that's it for ADA-compliance (in that building, anyway).

Oh, I'm sorry! I walk up the stairs of the downtown building because I always do it as exercise. There are elevators in the building, I just don't use them because I like to do some walking. Oh, but yeah, the interview is for a colony. They have this one on one session with you since the girls who join this quarter will be founders. I hope it goes well!

If a building is over a certain # of years old, and it was built before ADA requirments and it would ruin the building to put in elevators and the like, they don't have to have them...there is a movie theater by me like that, and while I love the theater, it is a pain in the neck.

That's what I figured
I really hope that it goes well...I think as a junior a colony is something that you should take a serious look at...you can get invovled big time right away, which is something that I'd be looking for...while you might not get the chance to get invovled big time right awya at an already established chaper.

What happens if a handicapped person wants to work there? Could (s)he potentially sue the theater?

No, but they would have to "reasonably accommodate her". Meaning making sure all of her job requirements could be done from the first floor, or finding some way to get her up the stairs, etc...

If you're where I think you are then I would tend to doubt that studying abroad would be a problem. You may want to ask your Rho Mu about this if you haven't already! Continued good luck to you.

AGD had an interview for my colony... I don't know if it was for the same reason or not... I just know that instead of the skit night, we had interviews.
Good Luck!

Yay! It went very well!!!
I met with the lady who will be the NM coordinator/instructor and an alumna from a nearby school that is a C.J. I think it went very well because I asked questions, they laughed at my joke and we even knew people in common from the school I transferred from! Plus, I asked about the study abroad and they suggested I go because if I was given a bid and decided to join then I would be initiated later on and/or specifics could be worked out later. Overall? I think it went great and I am now seriously considering C.J. as an option. Hopefully I get pref'd!! ::crosses fingers::
As for ADA,
My old school had one elevator in one of the dorms! We did a study in my bio class as to whether or not the school was ADA up to date. Turned out that 95% of the buildings weren't and that most of the parking spots and bathrooms weren't either!

It's sad to see that a lot of school aren't up to date ADA wise...neither is my school, and it's sad esp when students in my major spend a lot of time learning about ADA...
I'm so glad that the interview went well for you and that your considering CJ now!

It sounds as if you have a great mind set about recruitment and as if there are lots of wonderful groups on your campus!
Best of luck to you!

Then again, red and white are generic enough colors that it wouldn't be as obvious as scarlett and olive or lavender and maroon.
