There's one other bottom line issue here.

In theory, everyone should have read the Terms of Service and agreed to them before they were granted membership.

If everyone has done that, and they post something that obviously breaks the rules, why would they be surprized when it is deleted?

People have different levels of what they consider objectionable, but the thread I deleted was crude by any "reasonable man" test that I can think of.

One other thing. It is not true (at least for me) that anything that receives an objection is automatically deleted. Instead, I (and most other moderators, I think) read the allegedly offending content and make our best evaluation of it before taking any action.

And I don't know about cash or otter, but I don't have AIM at work. The nice thing about GC is that you can come and go when you have time. I can't sit on AIM at work. But I can post on GC when I have time.

I think there is really no comparison for GC and AIM. Completely different. Besides, why not take everyone in the random thread and say, "Just have this conversation on AIM." It's not reasonable. And there is no reason why we should have to do that.
You just made the point I was going to make. I don't have AIM at work either. Plus, this is "chit chat". In my mind the defintion of "chit chat" is just random daytime stuff that comes up...which is what those were.

ETA: except for the one subject that DeltAlum deleted...which I understand

They have a version of AIM that goes through your browser window. You don't need to download anything in order to use it.

The random thread is pretty different given that probably a hundred or more posters post in that thing -- it would be pretty difficult to move it onto AIM. With three people, it's an entirely different thing. Even if you feel that you can't use AIM, there are plenty of other websites you COULD use.

It's not like I don't know where you're coming from. A couple years ago, other GCers got annoyed when we posted H&A-based threads on GC. Instead of starting a million H&A threads (okay, I'll admit, we did that too, but it got boring after about two days), we moved our conversations to AIM or LJ. Simple solution that makes everyone happy -- yay!

I posted a moderately humorous parody of the Mike Jones threads, that was in no way offensive - why was that deleted?

Was it really any more worthless than any of the other retarded threads that populate the chitchat front page?

Yeah, I know about AIM Express. I use that during my lunch break if I stay here. But it's just not reasonable to do that all day. I don't see ANY reason why we should have to go off GC to have random conversations.

I guess we should just move our random conversations into the Random thread.... Evreyone will enjoy that.

Dude, it got deleted so fast I didn't see it. I wish i had..dammit!

And agreed, I really don't think handbags, puppies, wanting to get done with work, etc. are any more interesting than life according to cashmoney, otter, lindz, KSigRC, etc.
