Also doves95, the National Pan-Hellenic Council does *NOT* oversee other fraternities and sororities outside the Divine 9. The Divine 9 are 9 historically African-American fraternities and sororities and does not include other organizations as you claimed.

Wow! I'm glad Tyler's expanding into Greek Life--it was in my top two schools when I finally decided where to go, and one of the reasons I went to Baylor was because it had already-established sororities and I was afraid that there wouldn't be much to do at UTT. I remember our tour guide there had talked about possible expansion, but the city of Tyler wasn't quite ready for Greek Life. Too bad they're not opening a KD chapter there--most of my family lives nearby in Overton! (And too bad--some of Aunt Mary's Beta Sigma Phi sisters are KD alums! KD there would be awesome!)
Firehouse--UT Tyler, I believe, was formerly Texas Junior College. (I'm not sure, though, so if it's the bothersome question of the night, you might want to check with someone else.) Tyler Junior College is still a two-year, but UT-Tyler was another two-year college that switched into the UT system a while back and recently became a four-year.
LOL, I remember the Braum's...my grandpa doesn't eat many things out aside from hamburgers, hence, we know the Tyler Braum's well. It's typically the stop to or from the doctor's office.

thanks for correcting me but I know of a few schools where asian and Latino groups are in the NPHC..... they could be associate members like local chapters are of NPC and not have any voting rights.......

congrats to UT-Tyler on their hope to expand! I have a question though, my school is going through expansion (we have no sororities) and I think we are only allowed to have 3 groups present? Anyone know if this would be true, or what?

From my experience, schools typically invite three organizations to present. I do not know if that is an NPC rule or just common practice. I suppose if your school wanted to invite more than one or two GLOs on campus at a time, it would be smart to have more than three present, but I can't think of any school that would be in that position.

I know Mindy Sutton from her work at UofH..She is a sweet woman but as far as work ethic, she could have done a better job with the expansion of our greek system.Rules, upon rules were put against us and actually did not help our greek system much. I hope she does a better job at UT-Tyler and for a bright future for the students there wanting to become Greek.

You should talk to your national about reinstituting the chapter at Florida State. They still own a gorgeous house on sorority row, and they were an old and established chapter is a great system.

I wish it were that easy! There is so much politics that go into it, the school has to be open for expansion, SK needs the alumnae support, SK needs the moola. But hopefully they'll get it back eventually.

In one of those articles it said that interest groups had formed to bring Delta Sigma Theta and Alpha Phi Alpha to UT-Tyler. When I was in college both of those had strong chapters at my campus (which is also in East Texas) so I would think they have a lot of alumni/ae that can get those off to a good start.
