Check back in about ten years (after state and federal appeals are exhausted) to see if Scott Peterson gets the cocktail of death in San Quentin. He gets a choice of HCN (hydrogen cyanide) in the gas chamber or the IV cocktail of death; the latter if he makes no choice.
Right now, this is the jury's recommendation. The judge may overrule the recommendation and give him life with no parole at formal sentencing in February. Unless he finds some mitigating circumstance it is highly unlikely that the judge will deviate from the jury's unanimous recommendation, lest he incur the wrath of the Rocha family and the court of public opinion.

For some reason, I thought they had more actual evidence on OJ. And this guy gets put to death. Makes you wonder.

O.J.'s legal dream team: the best defense money can buy. Plus they were aggressive enough to poke holes large enough to drive a Mack truck thru on the prosecution's case, which was literally stepping on its proverbial male appendage with circumstantial evidence. It wasn't much of a secret that the prosecuting team wanted the media spotlight as well.
Peterson was a dumbshit. Much of the circumstantial evidence pointed right at him, and the trial had much stricter controls than the OJ circus.

Not really. If 12 people who were hellbent on an acquittal had been chosen for Peterson's trial, well, then, he would have been acquitted! It's all the jury.

Although he got the death penalty, it will probably be a while before his "sentencing" actually happens:
California's death row has grown to house about 650 condemned men and women since the state restored capital punishment in 1978, according to the AP.
Only 10 executions have been carried out since then. The last one was in 2002 -- for a murder that happened 22 years earlier.

I agree...the whole case was based on circumstantial evidence...of course, we'll never know if he REALLY did...unless he confesses.
But based on the weight of the evidence against him...he doesn't deserve the death penalty (matter fact, no one does...but that's a different story). In any case, he ain't gonna die anytime soon...

The fact that OJ was not convicted and did not receive the death penalty is just one reason why he doesn't deserve the death penalty.
It's not even about whether he did it but about how the system is used so incorrectly by a government to kill its own people.

first of all, i was amazed he was found guilty, so i was sure he'd get life or whatever. i am even more amazed he got the death penalty. he deserves it.....killing his wife AND baby AND chopping her up. yeah....bye, scott. you take lives like that, and you lose the right to your's.

I heard one juror say that they went for the death penalty because he didn't show enough emotion. Then I thought to myself, "Why the hell am I watching this inane crap?" and changed the channel.
I have no idea why this murder is such a big deal when similar things happen all the freakin' time, every single day. I will say this though, you can't be any sicker than the f***s who stood outside the courthouse and cheered when the death sentance came down. How freakin' sick is that. Those people need to get jobs.

Granted I'm against the death penalty, period, but I thought that was weird -- how they said he didn't show emotion. Um, okay?
The only reason this murder was such a big deal is because Laci was a pretty, white pregnant woman. I'm not saying it's not tragic, but you're totally right that stuff like this happens every day and nobody ever hears about it.

It is interesting that most of you all even want to revisit the logic behind the death penalty now that they have convicted this young man to death and not O.J.
Believe me, O.J. is well within the realm of the Florida state troopers grasp... They will take him down if they have to with one shot... Or you might find O.J. in the belly of a gas bloated gator with indigestion...
As for poor Scott... You just don't get accuse of killing your about to have the baby pregnant wife while you are cheating on her... Period... You don't have those kinds of aspersions out there about yourself if you say you didn't do it... You just don't let that happen to you...

Agreed. The number one cause of death for pregnant women in America is murder.
I just don't understand the logic of the death penalty. "We're going to kill you to show that killing is wrong." In my opinion, vengeance has no place in the justice system. I think it's telling and sick that America is the only first world country that still has capital punishment.

Where did you get that statistic?
And can I see a list of women that were pregnant, kidnapped, murdered, and had the child murdered? Because I don't think this is something that happens every day.
