I just wanted to say that everything, including documents, paddles, history, charters, prior to 1980 were lost. So please don't blame any of the current or recent brothers for losing anything , everything was already long gone before I got there. I myself was very sad when I found out we had no history prior to 1980. I'm a HUGE local history buff and would have loved to read some of the original documents, etc.

What you might consider doing is trying to find out from IHQ who was active in the house at the time of the 1980 closing, and attempt to locate those folks to see who might have what items.
I did the same when UNC restarted in 2000. Although quite a few items have been lost (well, not really, but the bros that have the items fell off the radar screen) - but we were able to retrieve a few items from the original chapter. It took a lot of work and research, but once you get in touch with a few - they can lead you to other contacts, and so on, etc.....

Unfortunately that scenario doesn't seem too likely. During my time we did find an item or two from alumni, just copies of composites though. In the 20 years we did have brothers try though.
The 70's and early 80's was when Umass got it's nickname "The Zoo." I met some of the guys from that era and from the stories they told me, THEY WERE CRAZY, even by my standards! If you have ever watched the movie "Blow," when they mention Umass-Amherst, the guy means the Gamma Zeta house. I guess he stayed there quite a bit and got alot of "business" from the fraternities. Under the circumstances that they lost their charter, I'm pretty sure saving things from the past wasn't on their list. And the fact that PiKE (the only fraternity crazier than ours at the time) rented our house after we left, I'm pretty sure they didn't go through the trouble of preserving our history.
Also any resources going to LXA from Gamma Zeta right now would be strictly to re-colonize.

Gamma Zeta
Thanks for the warm welcome.
I'm currently in Maryland (Fort Meade) for the second time in my career. After I enlisted, I spent about 4 years in Kansas....even had the opportunity to visit the Kansas State chapter, and assisted with their initiation ceremony one year.
If all goes well, I'll finish my career at Meade (of course there will be a deployment or two to the desert...perhaps sooner than I anticipated).
During my brief association with Gamma Zeta I recall many, many parties. I guess I was one of the hard-core crew that just couldn't seem to refuse any chance to get together and get drunk (hence my academic downfall....)
But I still look back at that time as the key to forming my personality and my transition from boy to man....
Also, and no question about this in my mind, I was able to make mistakes in an environment that did not have an severe repurcussions on my life. Where else can a person experiment so much with the wild side of partying and not incur the wrath of law enforcement. There was never even a question of getting behind the wheel of a car....hell, we could walk across the entire campus if need be; but never had too. Everyone came to our house....but those are memories for another day!

Gunny313, just keep posting! It is nice to see some rememberances for what LXA did for new young men in helping them Grow to be Adult Men.
LXAALum, updated My Old Paed. Just a few Years makes a difference!
Gunny313, if you have a chance, get with one of the Zetas in Your area. Mooch is a Alum in your area I think!
Maybe can have an Ale or two and tell lies to each other!
Oh, rememberances!

Tom right you are. Gunny313 hit me up if you want to grab a beer and share some stories. I live in Beltsville which is only about 10 -15 minutes away from the base.

Any word on when they updated Alumni directory will be released, or did I just not get the info?
There are quite a few people I'd like to look up from my time at the house...

From my experience I've seen the directories coming out every 5+ years. It's quite a large undertaking, so they're probably not going to re-invent the current edition (published in 2003 in both print & CD-Rom) for a couple of years...that's my guess, anywho.
