The point of it was to state that your remark is commonly made when discussing topics such as this. breathe easy.

I personally would never do this. I think it looks tacky and not very classy. We had SDT on our campus and many people thought the letters spelled "eat" as pointed out in an earlier post, and I just think it doesn't look good (I'm not singling you ladies out though, just giving an example ).

I had sisters that had pants like these when I was in school but they always wore them for lounging around the house, my current roommate still does. She doesn't wear them out to the store or when she goes over to her boyfriend's house and she didn't do it in college either.
It's not something I would personally do, because I don't need to be drawing anymore attn to my butt. Something like this doesn't bother nearly as much as people that smoke, drink, or shack in their letters. But that's probably because I've been so conditioned that all of these are not appropriate, 'butt letters' didn't appear until my junior year.

At my university it is very popular to wear sweats with letters on the butt. I can understand why people dislike this, but personally it doesn't bother me or offend me, and it is a complete non-issue at my school. I actually own a pair of sweat pant capris with my letters on the butt. Personally I don't find it to be disrespectful to my letters, although I know a lot of people say it's like "sitting on your letters." I can see why that would be offensive but to me it's not. I don't view it as disrespecting my letters. I mean, there are plenty of girls who wear their letters spelled out across their chest, and although it is different no one says anything about the fact that the letters are across a girl's breasts- cause although you can say "no they're over the girl's heart," let's be real they aren't. I feel that the way you chose to wear your letters is your thing. Girls who drink in their letters (it's done very frequently at my school), wear their letters on their butt, etc. have the right to. Yes you are representing your GLO, but you are still an individual...

I think it depends.
We have pants/shorts that we got for Greek Week dance uniforms that say "Tri Delta" on the butt area. Its not directly across the butt, but rather right below the waist. I don't have a problem with that.

Nor do I have a problem with girls who have letter pants in the same location (again, higher so as it goes on the small of the back rather than butt). Personally, would I wear them? No.

I see nothing wrong with smoking or drinking in your letters - if they're that bad, you shouldn't do them at all - but I won't hijack the thread as that is one dead horse.

I really think this is something that depends upon your campus. Just like around here a lot of the state schools have the puffy baseball jackets - I'm sure at some places those would be looked at like "what the?" and think they were hideous. But they're a big deal here and everyone's proud to wear them.

Personally, I think the most offensive thing you can do to or in your letters is mistreat or be mean to others. If you go to a restaurant in your letters and act like a bitch, that's 100x worse than drinking in letters or wearing them on your butt.

I completely agree. Like for instance, if I see girls in letters drinking a beer or any kind of alcohol I'm not going to think "Oh, look at that her sorority must be full of drunks." Because really let's be honest... drinking in college isn't exactly an uncommon thing. However, if a bunch of girls are wearing letters and are coming off as bitches, then their sorority is gonna get a rep. for being a bitchy sorority. That's the unfortunate truth... even if its really only a few girls out of many that's what's gonna happen.

I think it's tacky to wear any writing on your ass. A neighbor girl had a pair of pants that said "Bootylicious" on the butt. Eww.

I think it's double tacky to have letters on your butt. I do think it's disrespectful to your organization to have your letters and your organization tied to your rear end, and that it's tacky as all get-out to have your letters on clothing in such a way that you're going to damage or soil them.

I don't have as much problem with track pants that have the letters on the front hip or down the leg... it just looks less sloppy.

Letters on your chest drawing attention to your chest is not such a problem unless your letter shirts are a size too small...

Ditto!

I would nevvvvvver drink in my letters at a bar-- now since I have graduated and if I am at home having a drink and I happen to have on an ADPi shirt that is different. But to the point of this thread-- I do not find it disrespectful to wear your letters on your butt (I totally agree with the boobs thing if you are going to fight the butt thing), but I would never wear them as I think they are more for the collegiate members!!
