I remember ...

... when postage was .15.

... using tokens for public transportation in NYC. Tokens cost .50. If you had a buss pass, it cost .05. I also remember two fare zones. No free transfers on the Metrocard like we have now.

... black and white tvs.

... Colecovision with an attachment to play Atari games.

... when tuition at a private college was about $16,000 a year.

... afterschool specials. They were great!

... when President Reagan, John Lennon, and the Pope were shot.

... when car phones cost $500 a month.

Colecovision in general... with Donkey Kong and Burger Time... yeah...

When a Gameboy weighed a ton, was gray, and had brocoli colored screens...

Teen games like Perfect Match and Mall Madness... and they actually had advertisements on TV...

Snorks, Smurfs and Muppet Babies were groovy Saturday morning cartoons...

McDonalds wasn't trying to be your latest Health Food Fast Food Joint...

Scenes in movies were done by mini-models, actors, and zillions of extras... not CGI.

(snif...)

>When my State School tuition was $212 per semester.
>All of the above were shot as well as JFK. RFK and MLK.

-I was excited to get a turn to play Family Feud on the Atari

-Mom or sister had to roll my hair with hot sticks every Sunday for school and THEN tease it because big hair was it

-ponytails on the side, super size scrunchiis, banana clips, and lots of hair spray held the hotsticked hair

-the "cool" people had bangs that had the top layer curled up and then the rest curled down

-Full house was awesome and I wanted to be like Candice Cameron

-MC Hammer pants were all the rage

-Movie disc players (the ones where you had to slide in the entire giant case and then when you pulled it out the disc stayed inside.

Sure I remember when big hair was in because around here is still is for some reason.

Also, no one has told some of the people around here that banana clips ever went out of style.

It's a scary, scary place I tell you.

There were no pantyhose and you had to wear a garter belt.

My high school girlfriend used to iron her hair to make it straight.

Some of the cheerleader moms from my church have been borrowing my hot sticks for their children's cheering performances. I was amazed that they had never seen them before!

Hot sticks rock...especially on extremely long hair....I buy every set that I find at yard sales....

I remember

When postage was 25 cents
When the concept of airbags seemed completely futuristic
When no one had CD players
When women wore neckties
When it was ok to go trick-or-treating at night
When it was ok to celebrate Christmas at school
When most of my evenings were taken up watching grainy green footage of Gulf War I.
When people were actually nice to each other.

Someone said "When gas was less than $1." That really wasn't so long ago. I remember when I was in high school seeing gas in Georgia for around 75 cents a gal. Even here it was around 95 cents or so. And that definitely wasn't so long ago!

How about "when gas was less than $2" ? That seems so long ago

Hey, those are coming back in style.... but without the turtle neck... I hope those NEVER come back!

And by the way, gas here is STILL less than $2 a gallon (but not by much... when I filled up yesterday, it was $1.79)

Remember when women wore shoulder pads that made them look like football players?

....when Labyrinth came out and introduced me to rock and roll through the demi-god that is David Bowie.

....when AIDS was this really mysterious illness that everybody on the schoolyard was talking about, but nobody knew what it was until the Ryan White story came on TV. (at my school, at least)

....when King Kong Lives! came out.

....when they FINALLY showed Evil Lynn's hair on He-Man. (It was white!)

....when monkey bars were metal, rusty, and hella dangerous!

....rat tails! (I had one!)

...when the Redskins won the Super Bowl!

...when DC got a female mayor! (AKA Soror Sharon Pratt Kelly.....her slogan was "It's time to clean house" and had accompanying hand gestures.)

...when we became "African American"....well, not WE, but me and and a few others.

...when "Molly's Pilgrim" came on.

....when VEGETABLE SOUP came on!!!!
