Well, he wasn't RAISED by an attorney. In fact, his father was a mill worker who moved the family around a lot in order to find better-paying jobs. I imagine being raised poor or "working-class" leaves a certain amount of financial prudence with you--which may or may not change if you do well. Sometimes, you espouse the values of your social situation growing up--not necessarily the one you're in now.
This whole convo is tired, kids. So, he eats at Wendy's once a year. If this sways someone's vote, they have other problems that need to be addressed. It doesn't make him trashy, or ironically, "Springer-esque."

My point is that I almost doubt it's a real "tradition" for them. Just another component of their "Hey, I'm a working man also" image.
It's shaping up to be yet another class warfare, have nots vs. haves campaign for the Dems. I'd rather they focus on individual responsibility, hard work breeds success and achievment... but that's the message coming from the other party.
