So I just learned something at DLC that I thought I'd pass on for everyone planning on attending Convention. For those attending opening ceremonies you're required to wear a white dress and white shoes and for closing ceremony you need to wear a full out formal gown. I thought I'd pass this on because I know white dresses can be hard to come by and I'm going to start looking once spring lines come out, I figure that will be the best time to find one.

Fortunatley for me the chapter's Philanthrophy chair works at Nordstroms and said she can hook me up with a discount and EVP said I could borrow one of her formal gowns but we'll see.

Thanks doll. I knew for the opening banquet (which we have to plan) that we had to wear white. I didn't know much about closing. I just knew we had to wear a nice dress. Good to know that it needs to be formal.

Yes, I have an excuse to go buy a pretty dress!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I'd only have to worry about the "all-white" I suppose (if I can get the money together to go) - can we say I have WAY too many formals and not enough places to wear them???

LOL - the last time I was in Neiman-Marcus with mr. honeychile, I showed him a formal and asked him where he'd take me if I bought it, because I LOVED it!

Wonder if it's still there....?

So I found my formal dress. It's this beautiful royal blue. The straps need to be altered but I got it on clearance that was another 50% off that!!!!! I seriously only 37 bucks for it. I rock!!!!!

Now the white dress on the other hand is going to be a major thorn in my side. When I went out tonight all the white prom dresses I tried on (that weren't ball gowns) just didn't look good on me and the other dresses were cream. Good thing I've started the search now cause I have a feeling finding the white dress is going to take forever.

Now if only I could find a dress to wear to a sisters wedding that is in 18 days (along with my birthday, woo hoo)

Okay, I really, really want to go - it's just Mr. Visa who's giving me fits. Is there a list available of exact clothing needed?

Like the white dress - long, short, or cocktail? Is sleeveless okay?

How about the evening dress? Again, sleeveless or not?

Anything else that's a must?

I'm hoping sleeveless is okay for the formal cause let's face it finding a formal dress with sleeves is pretty difficult.

I'm kind of guessing for the opening banquet with the white dress that some will be wearing cocktail and some will be wearing long ones. I say this because with white dresses you buy what you find and what fits you.

Honey, as soon as I know more I will try to find out for y'all. I might be able to find out from an IO who I'm friends with. She has been to a few conventions and she might (emphasis on might) be able to give some pointers. No guarentee's though.

Anyone who went to the last convention, any pointers?

When I went to the 150th convention ladies had anything and everything for white dresses: sundresses, skirt and sweater, long, short, fancy (but not formal), hippie crinkle skirts with longsleeve hippie shirts. You name it, as long as the outfit was pure white- not ivory, not off-white, not white with tiny black polka-dots, but pure white.

"White, street-length dress" is the exact quote - from the first processional at the first Convention in 1906(?). I once reviewed that w/a collegian who told me that meant anything you'd wear on the street. I asked how a white dress worn by a 'street-walker' would fit in the Processional... she got my point.

For the white dress, please don't wear something skin-tight or strapless. It should be 'pin-attire' as you will be wearing your badge. Also, the ribands do NOT work well with strapless dresses!!

Sleeveless is fine, although you will usually go straight to the meeting rooms and a sweater or long sleeves are usually a must! A cocktail dress may be too formal. In the past I've worn a calf-lenght, short sleeve, jewel neck, simple dress. When that shrunk in my closet one winter,

I found a sleeveless dress made of eyelet (WITH a liner!) that reached my knees. In both instances, I had a white cardigan, too. I felt inconspicuous and appropriately dressed.

There is a chain of ladies apparel stores called "White House/Black Market" and while they can be pricey, you can find something appropriate in white.

For the formal dress - anything goes!! Sleeveless, stapless, ballgown, mini - you'll see it ALL! I've got a spaghetti-stap ballgown, white w/lavendar violets!! If it didn't shrink this winter, that's what I'll wear.

Thank you SO MUCH for the detailed explanation! I have heard absolute horror stories of women who weren't permitted to be in the Processional or such, and I wanted the whole scoop!

Okay I just found and purchased a white skirt through Banana Republic. It is a-line and was on sale for $39.99 (which is really for Banana Republic). The skirt is only available in size 10 but because of it's style it looks like it could easily be taken in.

I've got tons of really nice white shirts, now I just need to find a white cardigan. Old Navy here I come.

Argh, back in high school we didnt get caps and gowns, girls had to wear white dresses. Finding a dress for that took me forever and this is like graduating from high school all over again!

Girlies,

So I called EO and got pricing information for full time and part time registration.

Now, I'm not very comfortable posting this information on this "viewed by everyone in the world" website. So if you want the prices please pm me.
