Let's see:
There's the traffic, the crazy cab drivers and the bike messengers and the double-parked cars - hence why I refuse to drive in Manhattan.
Everything is so expensive.
There's the crime. This seems to be getting handled a bit, though.
There are the crowds, especially the people who don't know how to walk down the sidewalk (there are rules!).
Ah, how I miss the city...

Dave Eggers is from Lake Forest, isn't he?
I didn't like how abrupt everyone was with their time. When you get in a line, it's because there's a wait. It's not like I singled you out. "You'll rue the day you got behind me in line! mwa ha."
Impatience is ubiquitous, but not everywhere does someone berate me, with cuss words, over the time it takes to retrieve change from my pocket. You don't have the spare 10 seconds? If your schedule is THAT tight, you need to make an adjustment.
and that skank from Fire Island. no, i don't wanna buy you a drink, but thanks for asking if i did. for the price of your well drinks, i could support a 3rd world child...maybe send him to college, where he'll start a FarmHouse chapter at the University of Somalia-Mogadishu.

Ditto. The other day I had some girl try and say she was from the "North Shore" of Milwaukee - um, there's like 4 cities up there, just say which one you're from.

NYC has the lowest crime rate of any big city in America, and has been this way for years. Odds are that the crime rate is lower than any city of any one who posted in this thread.

1. Bad traffic
2. The subway system
3. Everything's so $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
4. The Chinese food isn't as good as Toronto's Chinese food (we have 5 Chinatowns including the ones in the suburbs)
5. Everythings so fast-paced

I said it was getting handled. It is better than it was. I'm still not going to walk down the street by myself at night in certain neighborhoods. NYC still has a long way to go.
Incidentally, you'd be wrong about your last statement.

That's true of any city though - I can't think of anywhere I've been that's a major metro area where I'd feel safe in every single neighborhood.

Wrong. I doubt that you've eaten at a lot of chinese restaurants here.

LOL Exactly. I'd rather be in the bad parts of NY than the bad parts of Chicago, DC, or LA.

Have you been to Toronto's Chinese restaurants? They're just as authentic as those in Hong Kong. I'd say that NYC ones are about 20 years behind.

I'm not crazy about Chinese food anyways (have to really be in the mood for it) so it is one of those things that would be hard for me to rate. However, New York definately has the best Italian food, Pizza and Bagels hands down. I was dying in California last summer with those hockey pucks they call bagels. Lenders are even better then them.
