What do you HATE about NYC?
I'll start. People are psycho and rude. I just had an experience that pissed me off. They just re-did the Queens Center Mall and it is really nice for shopping now. Anyways, I came out and was sitting in my car talking to my friend who lives in Chicago. Well apparently the parking garage was full because some LOSER starts blaring his horn, flashing his brights and then has the nerve to come over and start screaming and cursing at me that he can't find a parking spot and "you better F*****G get off your phone and give me your spot", he goes. Look, it's not my problem if they let more people in then there are spots and I am sorry but I am not moving because your rude ass wants my spot. So that's my vent for the day. I took my sweet ass time moving my car though :D
People are like this all the time too, which I absolutely can't stand about my beloved city. A little girl got hit by a car on my block and died a couple weeks ago. When the street got blocked off for EMS people were screaming and cursing because they couldn't park their car for a half hour. NYC drivers definately piss me off!!!! |
You're living in the wrong neighborhood. I would move.
|
Well I really can't move right now and I don't think it's my neighborhood, I think it is NYC in general. Or people in NYC when they drive. Once you are in the drivers seat many people turn into crazy persons.
|
NYC drivers can be very psychotic. I take the subway everywhere. Which leads me to the one thing that I want to see changed about NYC. Fewer cars and trucks, and expanded freight rail and a dramatically expanded subway system.
Also, I would have recorded the drivers license of the man who threatened you, and reported it. |
hey i probably should have but i was mad and not thinking about that at that point. i agree about an expanded subway line. that would be cool. also (and we know this ain't happening) lower cab fares. i live in queens though and cherish having a car because it is more of a hassle dealing with the MTA outside of Manhattan.

I hate the fact that everything is so much more expensive in NYC. I know why and all--but that doesn't mean I have to like it.
|
It's dirty. I live and work in relatively nice, clean, neighborhoods...but when I get home, I'm just GRIMY. Ugh.
|
I hear you about things being more expensive, especially food. I had an internship in NYC in 1994. Shortly after I moved into my apartment (in one of the NYU dorms), I went to the deli in my building to pick up some groceries. I left without buying anything and came back upstairs and said "I'm not buying stuff there. It's too expensive!" They laughed and told me that that's what the price of food was going to be anywhere I went. I did find a grocery store nearby where the prices were somewhat normal but still more expensive than out here.
|
I can't stand how everything is so expensive. The homelessness is disheartening.
|
The tourists...
:p JUST KIDDIING!!!! winney - I hate to be a b*itch, but while I would not have gotten out of my car to threaten you, I would have been cursing you out left and right from my car. As a NYer you shoudl know parking is at a premium in this area. Shame, shame (I'm wagging my finger at you as I say this!) :) Seriosuly, I hate how people are so unaware. Three different times today people just stopped dead in front of me, or walked right into me etc. It's so annoying! Pay attention!!! |

Pay attention!!! [/B][/QUOTE] UMMM HELLO?! this is EXACTLY the attitudes I am talking about that piss me off about "New Yorkers". Why is it MY responsibility if the parking garage lets too many people in? And sometimes people aren't moving their car so why should I just because YOU may want parking. I don't like how you foolishy imply that I am "unaware" either. And yes, while you "hate" to be a bitch, you are being one :) But have a good day anyway :D |

Seriously though, if you're visiting New York with a bunch of friends, don't pick a street corner, where a few hundred people a minute walk through, to stop and caucus. Not very considerate. And we New Yorkers are very considerate to tourist pedestrians. Ever notice how we walk around you while you take pictures? All we ask is that you pick a spot that isn't so busy for your meetings. |
Damn Yankees :o :p ;) :D
|
Yes, but I'm in NY - we're alowed to be b*tchy! :)
I actually wasn't referring to you as "unaware", though re-reading my post I see how it could be read that way. I was just saying I would have been mad if someone was talking on their phone in the car if there weren't any spots open. The unaware people I was referring to were the ones who don't move into the subway cars, the people who stand in front of the turnstiles digging for their Metrocard etc etc. You know, those types... |
OH! I know what I HATE about NY'ers! Most people are transplants into NY and "complain" about ""tourists"----LIKE THEY never were NEW to NY before!!!!!
And the majority of these "New Yorkers" are living in Manhattan too under the false impression that they are "a New Yorker" . Very annoying!!!! |
