I played the cymbols in Howard's Marching Band. 10 lbs each and I'm petite. Tenor drum and xylophone where cool but I was such a brickhouse on the cymbols. Not like I can use this talent in a beauty pagent or anything. I've been able to share this talent with a few highschoolers in my day though.

I played the clarinet (bass and alto). For those who don't know, the bass and alto clarinets are kind of shaped like a saxophone.

I also played the recorder.

I played the piano for 3 weeks one summer--or I should say I took piano lessons for about 3 weeks. I had to let Mrs. King go. Lessons were on Saturday morning and she was cutting into my cartoons/Frosted Flakes time.

I played flute in Junior High. I can honestly admit now that I was not good. I knew all of the figure positions, could read music but the sounds coming out My 9th grade year my band director (bless Mr. Oliver's heart) "promoted" me to Drum Majorette for the marching band. Pays to be tall! My parents made me play flute because my older sister played flute. After the piano fiasco they were not shelling out cash for an instrument that would only last 3 weeks!

I can now proudly admit that I am musically challenged! LOL I also could not carry a tune if you put it in a bucket with a handle!!

I started my music career in 3rd grade playing - the clarinet... I continue playing that instrument throughout HS in both the Marching Band and Orchestra because my mother bought that instrument instead of renting, like all my friends who quitted parents did... I was forced to play because my mother threatened to kill me if I stopped, after all, I was not going to waste her good money...

I started playing the violin and viola in 9th grade, because the HS Band Director needed warm bodies to play in his new String Orchestra... So again, I was forced to play those instruments!

Then in college, I was recruited to play in the Jazz Workshop and started playing the flute, but I still played the clarinet, but I also started playing the piano, which is now the only instrument I play and planning to teach my children how to play

I wanted to play the frech horn, but my music teacher said it was too heavy and weighed more than I did.

Cool I used to play.....

The flute and clarinet in elementary school, the clarinet in JHS, and I can play a keyboard/piano now. I like playing the Halloween theme and Rugrats theme as well on a keyboard or piano....

I learned to play the clarinet in 7th grade and played through high school. I took up the bassoon when I was a sophmore in high school and played til I graduated. I didn't play in college. I'd like to learn how to play the saxophone or oboe.

My brother learned to play the violin in third grade and stopped in 6th grade. He switched to the drums in seventh grade and was in his college marching band all four years.

I played the viola in Grades 4-6. I loved playing the viola because it made such beautiful sounds. Everyone played the violin (look in the thread!), so I liked being unique. Believe it or not, my mom made me quit because she said she wanted me to take gym so I could lose weight. The sad part? I'm still full-figured, and I'll always be thick at the very least.

I'll probably pick it back up again in the future for two reasons. I have developed a fondness for classical music, and Ken Ford puts in work when he plays jazz violin! Maybe I can learn how to "jam" on the strings....

I started Playing Piano and reading music in Kindergarten. I played the recorder in 2nd grade. Played the Violin and the Clarinet in 3-5th grade. I played Piano until 7th grade. I stayed with the Violin from 3rd grade up though. I stoped playing Clarinet because my teacher at the time said I was spending too much time out of her class with Gifted, Violin AND Clarinet. So I had to pick one. I'm glad I stayed with Violin though. I got a great Stradivarious out of it, I was damn good(no modesty up in herre ) and I made all of the older advanced students jealous. The haters... but I digress LOL!

I wanted to play viola and cello. I LOVE the way they sound...very deep, rich especially with a great virbrato on it. But I was section leader. I wasn't giving that up.
