I've watched this movie. The classic scene is where the priest(?) is talking to Bud Cort and talking about Ruth Gordon's, err, aging flesh touching. Ewww.....

PEE WEE's BIG ADVENTURE!!! I thoght this was so FUNNY!
I used to watch his playhouse wth the kids...........till I found out
what he was all about!

B-movies: Any horror movie involving cheerleaders is bound to be a winner -- The Craft. Teenage witch angst! Whoo!
And any Adam Sandler movie, but specifically The Waterboy. Kathy Bates! Fairuza Balk! Adam Sandler playing (as always) a lovable moron! Yay!

Cult favorite: Rocky Horror (of course) and I LOVE Showgirls. It's such a cheesy piece of crap, but it gives me giggle fits every time I watch it.

And by the way, I'm not sure Clockwork Orange can count as a B-movie, or a cult fave for that matter. It's adapted from a very good book and it's directed by Stanley Kubrick, who's an absolute master... although it does count as 'weird movie not a lot of people really like even though it's quite good.' Actually, I think Donnie Darko falls into that category as well, and Harold and Maude too.

Anyone got a good name for the 'kind of disturbing but well made and critically well-received film'?

I don't know what anyone else calls this kind of movie, but I would probably refer to such a film as an "art flick" (or as my dh calls it - "artsy-fartsy"). On the other hand, not all art flicks are well made or critically acclaimed...but usually all are disturbing.

okay, most of my favorites have already been named..grease 2, hairspray(these are actually two of my favorite movies of all time), girls just want to have fun, RHPS, back to the beach, clerks(i personally don't think any other of Kevin Smith's movies could really be considered cult classics tho, they were too high budget) peewees big adventure (minus the large marge part, of course)
some more are : teen witch, and HUNK - does anyone remember this movie? its definately out of print at this point, it was some like mid-1980s cheesy movie about a loser guy who sells his soul to the devil to become cool..thats about all i remember tho

I agree with 33girl - John Hughes' films aren't B movies. In fact, the more you watch them, the more nuances that you notice in each of them!

oh i totally spaced on this movie, i actually own it..great flick..

and in reference to above..i don't really know if i would consider any of the mainstream adam sandler movies a b-movie or a cult classic..possibly that movie overboard, or airheads..but definately not anything billy madison or after..

John Hughes movies definitely aren't "B" Movies, but I think they are fast approaching cult classic status, if they aren't already (it has been over 15 years since they were filmed *GASP*). Wasn't it a Kevin Smith movie (Dogma?) that actually had Jay & Silent Bob looking for Shermer, Illinois/Shermer High School b/c they believed it existed as John Hughes' films depicted it? I think when your movie/subject matter becomes fodder for other films, its getting up there with cult status. Being a successful film doesn't preclude a film from being a cult film. And I know so many people who can quote those things....

What has gotten into me? I am terribly opinionated today. I should get off the computer.

Gotta add here- I went to Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, IL (formerly Shermerville, IL). Sixteen Candles/ Breakfast Club/ Ferris Bueller's Day Off were all filmed at my high school.
Shermerville was our town's name back when it was a railroad/prostition mecca in the middle of farm country in like 1900.

Saw that scene in Dogma----I was like, I'm here!!!!! Kevin Smith, come find me, I'm here!!!

I totally agree that John Hughes' films are attaining cult status! I've been to conventions where everyone was quoting Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink, etc ad nauseum, and yet, it was fun!

So, do we include Bull Durham & The Full Monty in this list? My vote is yes!

My school is on Shermer Rd., across from the Borden factory that makes Cracker Jacks. Its an industrial area but a few things should look really familiar to you, notably the football field (breakfast club) and theater doors outside (Ferris).
Northbrook's actually a really upscale suburb of Chicago, but for some reason the high school is in East Jesus. Don't let it fool you.
