hey everyone!
well toocute- i havent really posted anything on here since nothing new has happened. Over christmas break I am supposed to meet two alpha chis. I had a set date with a phi mu but she lost her credit card and license, so she had to cancel. AXO just sent me last week the dates for spring rush. I am really excited about that. One is dinner at their house, the second is dinner at a restaurant and the third is bowling!! Over thanksgiving break i went bowling and NEVER had i done SO bad, i think i bowled a 34 the first game and then the second i did a 60 something. I know its not a competition, but i thought it was so funny we are going to go bowling considering the fact that i did really bad last time!
The night that the AXO emailed me the dates for rush, i went ahead and told my mom and she replied with "i dont know why you want to be in a sorority, i dont get the point!" Then yesterday me and my family were going to dinner and I told my dad how i know the dates for rush and i mentioned that for the third party we were going to go bolwing, and he laughed. Then he asked me "so you are going to go through rush?" and i just said because its something I have always wanted to do. I know I will regret rushing if i dont do it, i already regret not doing it sooner. So-- there really is no new news, but I am glad you still remember me I guess this is kind of off subject, but how do you do those cute smileys? The only ones i know how to do are the regular happy and sad ones. Hehe, thanks! If anyone has anything to add about my "rush experience" thus far, i would love to hear! Well not really rush experience since i havent gone through it yet, but you know what i mean!

HI...I am a sophomore and I rushed in spring rush my freshman year and just this fall. I still haven't gotten in. I really want to be in a sorority but I guess you can say I'm not the average sorority girl. I enjoy having fun and I think I have some qualities sometimes it doesnt show as much. If anyone has ideas on this subject. I really need some help i have 7 sororities on my campus: Alpha Sigma Alpha, Alpha Sigma Tau, Delta Zeta, Sigma Sigma Sigma, Zeta Tau Alpha, Sigma Kappa, Phi Sigma Sigma. I know some girls but i just don't want to do spring rush again because i have to meet the girls all over again and i already done that once and went to 3 twice. Im not sure what to do. I wanna be in a sorority because i want the sisterhood, socials, philantrophy and its something that i only want to do here at college besides study and party. Please email me smanders@runet.edu if someone has any ideas thanks

I only talked to her on the phone, and i realize that maybe she wasnt trying to sound unfriendly, but thats how she came across. Long story short, i decide to wait another semester. Now, in the spring, my school has informal rush. Considering i dont know any girls in sororities here, and i dont really know what house i want to be in.... i dont know if going through informal rush is a good idea. I am a transfer student to this school so i am a sophomore, i dont want to wait until fall rush next year because then i will be a junior. The school that i transferred from, mainly takes in all freshman and a few sophomores... so thats why i dont want to rush here as a junior. I dont know what i should do... i would love to get advice from anyone that knows a thing or two about informal rush!! If you are in a sororitiy at the University of Houston, that is where i transferred to, i would love to hear from you as well!!

HI!
I was reading your thread and I just wanted to wish you good luck! I love Phi Mu and I am happy that you have the chance to rush my sorority. I know you asked if pledging a sorority changes you at all. Well it has changed me, it has given me a lot more confidence and I am so much more of a happy and open person now. This is because of the support and love of my sisters. I really hope that you can find that too, wherever you decide to go. Good luck, and keep us up to date!!
Love, Holly
P.S. I would definetely try to schedule another lunch date with that Phi Mu! ;-)

Thanks PhiMuGal for wishing me luck, well really thanks to everyone since I know I have a lot of people wondering what will happen to me with rush. I will keep you updated, but here is another question for now... i know that for fall rush (formal) you have to fill out an application and pay, but do you need to pay for informal rush too? Reason I am asking is because I asked a friend of mine to attend the rush events with me, and she said sure but she does not want to join a sorority. So, if she has to pay then she wont come obviously. I didnt ask her because i didnt want to show up alone, but more because I dont want to end up driving all the way down there at night by myself. One of the events they are having is at some restaurant I am unfamiliar with. Even though she gave me directions, I am kind of worried about getting there since it will be dark and its not really in the greatest area of town. So bringing my friend along made me feel better about it. What does everyone else think on that?

I think it sounds like a great idea! Not only will you have someone to go through this with (in more ways than one) but she might have a good time. I'm not saying she'll want to join a sorority, but maybe she might meet someone she likes as well. I wish I had had a friend to go through (at least part of) Rush with, most of my friends are anti-Greek (or just apathetic about the system), so I got to trudge off to the houses alone! It worked out for the best, though.

If you search some of the posts under the name southerntheta, you may find useful rush info. Although it is mainly concerned with formal recruitment, alot of it is interesting, and will come in handy for you this spring.

Thanks preppie, I have read her post and it was very helpful. Like you said, it was mainly dealing with formal rush, but I still did learn a few things about it.
AlphaChiGirl, so you think its a good idea to bring a friend that is not rushing along? I hope it doesnt look bad on me, but i REALLY dont want to drive to some unknown place alone! Who knows, maybe I'll meet some girls from rush that live around me and we could go to the other parties together. Do you know if you have to pay when you turn in your application though? Thats the only part im worried about because otherwise my friend wont come along.
Well AXO has my information concerning rush, Phi Mu does now, and I had talked to a ZTA letting her know I wanted to go through spring rush, but I emailed her again to make sure. I need to email someone again in DZ to verify I am still going to rush, but I havent been able to get in contact with the other two sororities at all this semester. They are chi omega and delta gamma. By the way, i had heard that delta gamma was not part of the panhellenic council, is this true?

Hi bucutie!
You must have heard wrong about DG, they are a great organization Nationally and at my school as well. And they are definetely part of the Panhellenic Council. I hope you can get your friend to go with you, it will probably make it more fun and relaxing for you! Spring rush is almost here isn't it! I am also getting ready for it because I am the pledge trainer for my chapter so I will have a lot to do next semester! I can't wait, I have so many awesome things planned for our phis!!
Best of luck!

bucutie02 -
Where have you been? I haven't heard from you in like forever! I'll be off work until Tuesday so email me on greekchat if you have time.
We have never had to pay for informal rush because its up to each group as to what events they have. If you are bringing a friend to go through rush with you - that's fine. When we talked before, I was thinking the one-on-one thing. Maybe she'll see how exciting it is and want to join also. Sometimes its hard for people to understand until they actually see how it all comes together.

I have some news for those who have been keeping up on my "life". I am not 100% sure, BUT i think I have a GPA too low to rush this spring. I am SO dissapointed!! I am not completely sure since i have to double check on this, but what am i going to do? I mean, obviously i wont be able to rush right now, but this fall I am going to be a JUNIOR!! I was talking to this girl in Delta Zeta and i asked her about my friend who is a senior that wants to rush and they said thats fine, because they take girls of any year. So, that might be okay, but i am not sure about the other sororities. I would have to ask around. This is so terrible for me, i was so happy and now I might have to wait ANOTHER semester. I guess school was just a bigger shock academically to me than i thought. The classes here are a lot bigger than I was used to. Going in to a class with about 500+ students when before there were like 30 people in my class. I just want to know what everyone else has to say about this?

Be sure to double check on your grades because you never know what could happen!
Nothing's wrong with rushing as a junior, and it's great that DZ accepts rushees from all classes. When I rushed in the spring of this year, I had just made junior status. It took me a while before I decided that joining a sorority was for me. Now, I just made senior status and I'll be an officer in the spring! I hope that everything works out for you! Good luck!
