I currently have braids also and paid about $150.00. This was because I have very short hair (coming out of being, literally, BALD) so it was a lot of work.

My Sands' mom is getting micro-mini braids next week and paying $700.00. I was like daaayyyyum!

I think it depends on where you are geographically, as well as whether it is in ashop or sitting on someone's living room floor.

All and all I am in msiery just because I haven't had hair for like 6 years, but I am getting used to them. I do enjoy being able to do "things" with my hair but it is taking some getting used to.

You and me both!!!

I could never see myself spending that much on micros regardless of the size. For one, my hair grows too fast. After two months, my braids need to either come out or be redone.

And for two, I always heard that if you keep really small micros in too long, they'll start to lock up on you. I don't know if that's true or not. Maybe that's a moden urban legend.

One of my ls spent $500.00 on her braids. THey were REALLY nice and all, but $500.00.....

That's like two semesters worth of books to me....

I just got my micros done last week for the 1st time and they are iching my scalp like crazy. I've tried oiling them and spraying them witht braid spray every night, but still little relief. I paid $175 (hair included) so I really want them to last until October - but at this rate, I'm about to snacth these mugs outta my head. Any suggestions?

Also, I'm using Pink Oil every night to soften the hair, it's human (tight curly), but it's really rough and itchy to me. Any other suggestions since I can't wash them yet?

Watch out for that wet n wavy stuff. I spent $400 on interlock with it before my trip to Trinidad. I was only 3 weeks into the trip when it started to matt up really bad. I had to take it out after 5 weeks - I was pissed. I heard the best way to wash braids is to braid them into bigger braids all the way to the end - that way the ends don't matt.

Anybody in Chicago know of good, inexpensive braiders? I'm especially looking for someone who can do 2-strand twists.

When I had my micros I would have someone oil my scalp with this grease that had menthol in it once a week. I can't remember the name of it. You could try sulphur 8 grease too. I also used this stuff called Doo Gro oil. It made my hair grow and it has a money back guarantee. You could try mousse on the hair. I don't know what kind but it may be some that will not make the hair hard. I hope this helps.

My bf and I spent all Friday night taking my micros out. I started when I got home at 6, he came over at 9, and left at 4:30 in the morning. I was rewarded with 2+ inches of growth though.

But next time I will get them removed professionally..

You took a head full of micros out by hand?!?!?! You are a better woman than I am because I do not have the patience. Knowing me, I would probably just cut those braids out of my hair. When I take mine out, I get my braids really wet and put tons of conditioner on them and let them set for about fifteen minutes. After that, those braids just slide right out. The only part that I take out by hand is the edges. That hair there is so fragile and I don't want to risk pulling it out.

Just pay the thirty bucks to go back to the braiders and have them take out the braids and comb the hair! Two hours time to take out a head full of micros TOPS. It is SO worth it!

I went a year of only wearing braids... I have had every type of micro, box, cornrows, sideways, and zig zag braid there is. My very favorite was cornrows braided up into a pony tail (w/ my natural loose). The design was done with very very tiny cornrows and was very intricate and neat. I got so many compliments on it. As far as dry scalp....I would sacrifice a silk scarf, towel , and pillow case. I would put my micros in a ponytail, take baby oil and almost saturate my head with it ( once a week), then tie it up with the scarf and go to sleep. In the morning my scalp would have been thoroughly moisturized, the oil would have dried up and my braids would look wonderful. Sounds a bit messy and can be...but it works wonders. I have also found that Dark and Lovely braid spray works, as well as Dark and Lovely's honey kissed hair dress. I usually paid anywhere from $80-$200 for my braids and only because my hair was really thick and it would take them longer than usual.

They're called cornrows, not cornrolls. I know it may sound like cornrolls, but it's not.

ClassyLady: I hadn't thought of that. I'll keep that in mind for next time though.. Did anyone ever find a website that gave different pictures of braided styles? I am planning on getting my braided again after thanksgiving..but LARGER braids this time..

After all the drama trauma with micros I went with individuals this time. The style is growing on me but they are so versatile that they are really nice. My braider is trying to go up on her rates 200 for pixies...i wasn't havin it...i talked her down for my individuals. Word to the wise...NEGOTIATE!!!
