Do you know how many people in this country join fraternities and sororities having had little to no experience with Greek life prior to them going through recruitment? A lot. I'm one of them. Being from Hawaii has nothing to do with this.

However, I do agree that this argument may have some merit in this situation:

You do realize that Hawaii is part of this country and is throughly monder society. With the same TV shows and Internet as the rest of us. Meaning shows like Greek, movies like House Bunny and Legally Blonde etc... Sites like TSM/TFM, Instagram, Twitter and the list goes on.

You're acting like this girl being from Hawaii is akin to being from a foreign country/culture.

Perhaps you might be swerving a bit.

My apologies to Hawaiians if that's how it came across. That wasn't my intention. What I was trying to say is that given that there is one NPC chapter in the whole state and that other states are geographically distant, someone who grew up in Hawaii wouldn't know many peers personally who were sorority women. The personal stories she would have heard from people she knew and trusted must be lower than that of a girl who grew up in a state with many NPC chapters. That's all I'm saying. She may not have had the benefit of someone describing a similar situation and then following it with "but it was no big deal. I just told them I didn't want to do the shots and that was the end of it." Those kind of stories are important for giving you the frame of mind that it's okay to say no in a situation that makes you uncomfortable.

Greek, House Bunny, Legally Blonde… those don't provide the same level of assurance and may even reinforce the idea that you need to go along with whatever is happening to you.

She's 22 if she hasn't figured out how to say no to peer pressure or the pressure to drink by now then she shouldn't be out drinking. She's legally old enough to drink. How does she have no responsibility?

At what age do we hold her responsible? 25? 30?

One NPC chapter in Hawaii doesn't = one social sorority.

And once again...someone who is as deer in the headlights as you make this girl out to be doesn't hire Gloria Allred.
