The only thing I can think of is that GCB does have a pretty large cast, and more sets (homes, offices, the church, Cricket’s private plane!), so the budget must have been huge compared to any of the comedies.
This occurred to me as well. The wardrobe and accessory expenses must have been fairly steep, too.
