I can handle it, whether or not I choose to is another story. I highly doubt some of the women are as rude as some on here. Why would I want to associate myself with this if people like you, alphafrog are such jerks.

Looks to me like you're choosing to, bless your heart.

I'm not your honey, idiot. We will all move on with our sorority membership. And you will still be a 22 year old desperately seeking susan.

As a northerner, I LOVE it when posts end with "bless your heart". Thanks for the morning smile.

I am transfering to Texas Tech for fall of 2011. I am 22 years old and will be at the time of rush. I have read everything I possibly could on the greek life website for Tech, Ive googled just about everything I could find, and read this website front and back. I obviously know I am going to need recs from just about every sorority because of my age, and I dont want my age to be a factor. I will have a sophmore standing. Joining a sorority has always been something Ive wanted to be a part of. I love the idea of a sisterhood while helping in the community. I volunteer here in Dallas as much as I can with Big brothers big sisters, the SPCA, and Habitat for humanity. I feel it would be a huge part of my college experience and my question for you is if anyone is remotely familiar with the Texas Tech recruitment process, what are some helpful hints, tips, ideas..etc.
Also, what is the best way to get recs in the Dallas area if anyone is familiar?
Thanks ladies!

Maybe I worded things wrong but all I was asking for were for some helpful information on how to over come the age factor, thats all. You all have been through this process before, I have not. You cant penalize me for that. I dont have any expectations on how I things work like ladylonghorn quoted
" But somehow I feel like your definition of "helpful ideas" is some OMG SUPER SECRET FOR SURE WAY TO MAKE ALL THE SORORITIES WANT YOU NO MATTER WHAT THEIR MEMBERSHIP SELECTION CRITERIA ARE BECAUSE YOU ARE A SUPER SPECIAL UNIQUE AND PERFECT SNOWFLAKE WHO EVERYONE SHOULD WANT."
That to me is a little snippy and uncalled for which is why I have responded the way I did to these posts. Age to me is not a huge deal. I dont mind associating myself with younger girls because at the end of the day we are all rushing a sorority for the same reasons. I will only be 22. Granted that is a large difference but Im not rushing a sorority for the age group of girls. That is not important to me. So thank you Alumiyum for answering my questions. I have an open mind and I have no expectations.

Ive got to be honest, after all this I'm just so discouraged on the entire situation and I am really turned off to the idea of even rushing a sorority anymore. So I guess youre right Alphafrog. Im done while Im AHEAD. If some of you are "such sorority ladies" I want no part.

SamanthaBay, your first post insinuates that you've been reading and lurking for a while, and you finally decided to join and ask your question. If that is indeed the case, then you should realize that the answers you've gotten here (yes, answers, not insults) are the same exact things that have been told to other PNMs in your position. These responses should be no big surprise. It is good you realize your age will work against you, even though you don't want it to. With that, the advice you've gotten about contacting the Dallas Panhel Alum orgs to get Recs for ALL the groups, keeping up your grades (think 4.0, not 3.1), and staying involved is the best advice you're going to get. There are no secret tips or hints to any group at any school. You should realize this if you've been reading here long enough. Brush up on your convo/interviewing skills and be prepared to answer tough questions, like "why are you 22, but only a sophomore and only rushing now?" Then be prepared to be heavily cut.
Best of luck!

Username just PMed me to call me an asshole.
I'm mildly amused. Seriously, you had to PM to say that?

IrishLake, yes I have been reading for a while, not forever though. Lurking not so much really. I was a little confused and after the questions I asked I got some responses and I felt attacked on some so I apoligize to LadyLonghorn for that. Just my interpretation thats all. It's the internet. Theyre not a surprise but I guess what I was looking for were some words of encouragement as well because all Ive gotten were not such positive remarks regarding age. I'm 22 (not dead) and just now transferring and rushing because after high school I spent 2 years in Europe living with my family who lives in Spain. I know and understand the heavily cutting process. Another question to you is when is a good time to begin collecting RECS for fall rush?
