Well, everyone knows that the RW producers like/shoot for controversy, so of course there will be the ultra-"traditional/conservative" (can't find the right word) boy there (that Caucasian boy from Ohio who is racist ) vs. the more liberal, kinda "interesting" ppl (like the girl Coral from San Francisco, who practices New Age-y stuff and also tarot cards), as well as the boy from Berkeley, who is supposedly involved in activism. Supposedly the RW drama will center between Coral and the boy from Ohio, since supposedly during the first episode, Coral picks up on his racist habits (Coral is also African-American.).
San Francisco and Berkeley (both in the Bay Area) are always portrayed on the media as the liberal, activist, more "wacky" places. Which I find kinda funny - because the typical San Franciscan is liberal, yes, but also pretty "normal."

Hey newbie - this is a hangover from before you were even a glint in your ma & pa's eye. I think giant billboards should be posted everywhere saying "THE SIXTIES ARE OVER ALREADY." I'm sure people still go to Berkely expecting to see hippies in the streets.

You know!! Also add:
*People from Los Angeles are shallow and all want to get into showbiz.
*People from New York are mean and rude.
*People from the South are all counrty and don't know anything about city life. They are also likely to be________ (fill in the blank with racist, homophobic, etc).
WHATEVA!!!!!

I have a feeling that Coral might not even be her real name.

You guys are so right - talk about playing up stereotypes!!!
Has anyone else from San Francisco or Berkeley been on RW before?? Are they always more "eccentric"????? Sheesh, I don't even know anyone in SF who reads tarot cards and such.
Actually, ya know - once I encountered a tourist (I live in SF) and he asked me, "So where are all the hippies at? Can ya direct me - I wanna see them." I've had tourists come up to my friends and they have actually said, "Gee, San Francisco seems so tame. Have you seen the film "Berkeley in the '60's? How come there's no activism going on?"<--NEWSFLASH: 1) This is SF - not Berkeley, which is a different town. 2) There IS activism going on, but it's not the same activism of the '60s that they are looking for.

If you want to get on the show it really helps to not only be 19-22 but also:
1. A student at Berkeley
2. Southern, and willing to play it up for the camera. "I'm from the South so I don't know nuttin about race relations!"
3. From Chicago. Both Jaime and David in NO were from the Windy City. (But from "different sides of the tracks.) Also, at the reunion, Lindsay (Seattle) wouldn't shut up about the crush she had on Jaime while in high school!

They did a casting call in Baton Rouge a few years back, that's how Theo from RR got on.
I have a friend...well, not a friend anymore, but a guy I know, is such a mean person he'd be perfect for the show. He's one of those people who is hiarious until he turns his sense of humor on you
I've also considered making tapes of random friends while they're doing homework or at their computer just to be silly and send them in

Aparently Mike has lived an extemely sheltered life and he needs to ge out more. The statement he made on the first episode offended me and I don't even know the kid.

For some reason I thought he was from the Dallas area. Some hint he dropped during the casting special or first episode.
Yall were so right. The whole retreat thing in Palm Springs or wherever ruined the first day in the house. The nervous vibe was gone. It was more like a reunion. Whatevah.
Oh , I almost forgot. The guy with the big hair...I saw him while I wasn in NY in May. My friend Beth and I were taking the subway from the World Trade Center to Christopher Street- the Village and he was sitting across from us. Of course I had no idea who he was, but how could you forget that hair?? I spent 2 weeks trying to figure out why he looked so familliar. Guess thats why...

I'm sorry, but I do not think Mike is rascist. He's SHELTERED, and there is a difference. He's trying to learn from Malik. Coral is being such a B*TCH!!! I mean it's not like her little manipulative(sp) way of picking on Mike is right!!!!! I'm sure that's bothering him too! He made a mistake and you could see how sorry he was on one of his confessionals. Coral needs to GET OVER HERSELF!!!!!! BUT, that's just MY opinion.

I have to agree with you on Coral - that girl puts the capital B in BITCH!!! Doesn't she know that the way she is treating Mike and refusing to help educate and tolerate him she too is ignorant. Malik is great - at leats he see's some good in poor old sheltered Mike. Malik is the type of person who could probably change the world - he realizes that you shouldn't call people on their faults or shortcomings without being willing to help them learn from them - and i think he's awesome!

I agree with you about Coral b$#chiness. I was offended by what Mike said on the first episode and I don't really like him that much either, but I am so sick of Coral throwing his comments in his face everday. She's way to judgemental and sanctimonious. If Mike's attitude bothers her that much she should try to educate him, not pick on everything he does. In any case, they're both getting on my nerves.
