Tri Sigma has a chapter there (Beta Alpha). I hope they're all okay.

What else is known about the shooter? Any particular motivation? Why would he target those particular students in that one classroom?

7 dead in N. Illinois U. hall shooting
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23171942/
Another person shot when a gunman opened fire at a lecture hall at Northern Illinois University has died, bringing the toll to seven, including the gunman, a coroner said Friday.
Investigators and school officials did not immediately know why the man indiscriminately fired into the crowd with a shotgun and two handguns Thursday, wounding 15 people and sending panicked students fleeing for the exits before killing himself.
Sixth victim dies in Illinois college shooting
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A sixth victim of a shooting spree at an Illinois university has died after black-clad man fired into a lecture hall packed with students before killing himself, the DeKalb County Coroner's office said on Friday.
Classes were canceled after Thursday's shooting at Northern Illinois University, a 25,000-student school 65 miles west of Chicago.
The gunman, who police said was a former Northern Illinois student, had a shotgun and two handguns when he stepped onto the lecturer's stage near the end of an afternoon geology class and began shooting, witnesses said. Terrified and bleeding, students fled the hall before the gunman shot himself on the stage.

DEKALB, Ill — A former student dressed in black walked onto the stage of a lecture hall at Northern Illinois University and opened fire on a packed science class Thursday, killing six students, wounding 15 and setting off a panicked stampede before committing suicide, FOX News has confirmed.
Police say they have no motive for the rapid-fire assault, carried out by the gunman who fired indiscriminately into the crowd with a shotgun and two handguns as students dove to the floor and ran toward the exits.

DeKalb County Coroner Dennis J. Miller on Friday released the identities of the four victims who died in his county. They were: Daniel Parmenter, 20, of Westchester; Catalina Garcia, 20, of Cicero; Ryanne Mace, 19, of Carpentersville; and Julianna Gehant, 32, of Meridan.
He said the gunman's name is not yet being released.
Two other victims died after being transferred to hospitals in other counties, Miller said in a news release.
Winnebago County Coroner Sue Fiduccia on Friday said a female victim died in that county but has not been identified pending notification of family. The victim had multiple gunshot wounds and came from OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. An autopsy was planned for later Friday, Fiduccia said.

Towards the end of that article I just posted, it states that students "gathered outside the Phi Kappa Alpha house to remember Dan Parmenter". I wonder if they meant Pi Kappa Alpha?

NIU Greeks
I haven't seen this posted anywhere on here (sad this is becoming so common that it's not as widely written about) but here is the Greek life updates from NIU's shooting yesterday, as posted by a Phi Sigma Kappa on LJ:
- All the members of the Phi Sigma Kappa chapter are safe.
- Two women from the Sigma Kappa chapter are injured.
- A brother from Pi Kappa Alpha was killed.
Please keep them all in your thoughts and prayers!

I just received an email confirming that the sister of a Sigma Lambda Beta Fraternity, Inc. member was also killed. I do not know if she is affilated with any of the sororities on campus. My thoughts and prayers out to the Garcia family and to all of the family members/friends of those lost yesterday.

NIU Gunman Stopped Taking Medication
Published: 2/15/08, 12:05 PM EDT
By CARYN ROUSSEAU and DEANNA BELLANDI
DEKALB, Ill. (AP) - The man who gunned down five people at Northern Illinois University in a suicidal rampage became erratic after halting his medication and carried a shotgun to campus inside a guitar case, police said Friday.
The man, 27-year-old former student Stephen Kazmierczak, was also wielding three handguns during Thursday's ambush inside a lecture hall.
Two of the weapons - the pump-action Remington shotgun and a Glock 9mm handgun - were purchased legally less than a week ago, on Feb. 9, authorities said. They were purchased in Champaign, where Kazmierczak was enrolled at the University of Illinois.
The other weapons were still being traced.
The gunman's father, Robert Kazmierczak, briefly came out of his house in Lakeland, Fla., to talk to reporters.

We have an SAI chapter there. I hope all of the sisters are okay. I wanted to cross reference the chapter roll with those injured, but their website isn't up to date.
If any of you hear anything, let me know. I'm gonna go check the national website now.
Wasn't there a high school shooting earlier this week as well? On Monday?
