So I did a lot of thinking that night. When I started the process, I really didn't think sorority life would be for me. And I thought about what had changed my mind. It came down to finding a house where I really felt at home - a place where I could become more involved, get inspired and make life-long friends. Through the whole experience, I'd felt that way at one house.
So I made a decision to suicide. I know, I know. It's not recommended. I probably could have been happy at the other house too. But I never entered the process intent on being in a sorority. So if I was going to do go through with it, I wanted to be sure about my decision.
So I wrote down my decision:
Go-Gos. I had really clicked with the girls I'd met that week. There were also so many amazing people in the house - people I really looked up to.
I felt excited, apprehensive. How was I going to sleep at all!!!!

Actually, I do. It's amazing how, even after 10+ years, they're still very shiny!

Okay, so I didn't sleep all night. It didn't help that I was in the room by myself after my roommate left and that several of my friends had dropped out of rush after being cut by their favorites. My friend who had wanted the Go-Gos so bad had been cut. I kept waiting for that knock to come because I was sure it would.
But it didn't.
I can't even begin to tell you how happy I was when I went to pick up my bid that morning. I could never have imagined I would have wanted something so much. My rush counselor handed it to me with a smile. When I opened it, it said --------
Go-Gos.
Better known as
Delta Gamma!
It was so weird to have to call my parents and apologize that I joined a sorority. They definitely came around over the next year as they saw what a positive experience it was for me, and met some of my amazing DG friends.
Because so many people in the house were so involved, I became much more active in campus life. And I met some of the most amazing women - women I'm still friends with today.
On a side note, it was interesting the reaction I got from some of my friends from freshman year who weren't in sororities. One called it a cult, while my friend who had been cut didn't talk to me for a month. It all ended up okay.

Ditto. That girl could have been me, down to the matching BIG hair bow. There's something to be said about a bermuda bag and Pappagallos.

Does anyone remember justamom's rush thread about her daughter at LSU? This is what she faced but it worked out. Anyone who is dealing with this, please take note because it won't last forever. Just keep being pleasant!
