Another hopeful PNAM

Dear GreekChat gurus;
Like Louisa May I wanted to share my journey with the knowledgeable people on GreekChat. I've been viewing and following a number of stories and the board and have decided to take the plunge myself. My story follows:
I had always been interested in joining a sorority and was excited to go through rush. I was also exicted about college and looking forward to being involved with a number of activities. In high school I had been active on the debate team and was thrilled to receive a debate scholarship to my university.
I made it through three rounds of rush and was so thrilled with the potential sororities that invited me back. Unfortunately, it was not to be. My debate coach informed me that debate meetings were required for my scholarship and were held on the same nights that sorority meetings were held. In addition, my father felt that he did not want me to join a sorority and believed I should keep my scholarship. With many tears and regrets I dropped out of rush before Bid Day. I had a very busy and successful college career and have had two great careers in very different fields.
My regrets have stayed with me and surfaced again in connection with my mother's passing. My mother had a group of friends that were with her for many years, with one friendship lasting 80 years! I live in a different state and couldn't visit as often as I wanted. Her friends visited her at least once a week and sometimes twice a week. When I asked her closest friend how she managed, she replied: "A group of alumnae from some of the sororities offer to give rides to elderly sisters. I just call my sisters." I was touched and so grateful that women who I didn't meet would help my mother's friends keep her company. It brought back all my regrets and I began my research. I'm in the process of preparing a contact email and wanted to share my journey with those in the forum. As I visited with my mother and the others in the nursing home, one of the ladies said: "I don't regret what I did, but I do regret not doing some things that I really wanted to!" It is in that spirit that I begin my journey.

Thanks for sharing your stories, they've given me the courage to investigate,

Corgilover
