Hey. Well today was our recruitment kick off. Tomorrow starts official recruitment. This is a new thing this year to try and ease people into recruitment but to be honest I didn't love it. We watched a slide show which was nice, and then we broke up into our recruitment groups. The 7 sorority memebers sat in the middle of our circle and we sat around them while we made name tags and talked. I think the reason I didn't really like it was because the sorority members were supposed to try to rotate in the circle and my group never did so I ended up talking to the one member from the group "libra" for the whole time and I didn't seem to click with her to much. But I have very high hopes for tomorrow and like I said this was a new thing so all the kinks haven't been worked out yet. Also, if anyone would like to guess which school I'm at they are more than welcome or they can pm me about it or whatever. Tomorrow we start at 10:15 and were going to be going to all 7 houses so I'm really excited. I'll update you guys afterwards.

You don't have my sign as one of your code names so I'm gonna have to say I'm rooting for Pisces......

Well today was my first official day of recruitment. The first house I went to was....
Gemini- I was really excited when I got to this house since it was the first house of the day. It was nice and I liked that they had us in two rooms, we spent half the time in one room doing the philanthropy project and the other half of the time looking at there pillows and paddles and stuff like that. I'm not sure I like how they do there mentoring-ish program because they do bigs and littles but then another thing to(I can't really say what without giving it away) and I feel like I'd rather have one central person than two different ones.
The next house was....
Pisces- This house is the only local sorority on campus. The girl I talked to there was very friendly, but it was kind of noisy and I did not like that they didn't switch people at all so I only got to talk to one person. This is also one of the smaller groups and I think I may be looking for something a little bigger.
Next up was...
Capricorn- This house was just renovated from what I've heard and it looked really pretty. When we got in we had to sign the guest book at the door so it took us a little while to actually get in, at some houses they had someone walk around with it which I think worked a little better. They also asked a unique question in the guestbook which I liked. I spoke to a few different people and they seemed pretty friendly. The room was really crowded though so at times it was hard to hear what people were saying. I'm not sure if this is definitley the place for me but I really liked there vibe and enthusiasm.
The 4th house of the day was...
Libra-We actually took a bus to this house because its pretty far away from the others. The house was really spacious and had a comfortable feel to it. Everyone there seemed to really like there sorority and one of them complemented the seashell I was making on my bookmark even though it just looked like a giant paint blob lol. At the end of this house, however time kind of seemed to be dragging on but it was also the last house before lunch so this could have been why.
We took a lunch break and then we went to...
Aquarius- This house also had a very comfortable setting. I felt really at ease with all of the different people I talked to and we never ran out of things to discuss. I really liked peoples answers when I asked them why they chose their sorority and one girl looked like she was almost gunna cry talking about her rush experience and chosing to become an aquarius. They seemed like such a great group of girls and at the moment I'd have to say that this house is my top choice.
We then walked to....
Virgo- This is the only sorority without a house so we met them in a conference room. It was kind of difficult because there was less space so everything seemed alot louder. Both girls I talked to seemed nice but I didn't really feel much of a connection. Also I was really hoping to join a sorority with a house. The group was really great but I don't see myself as being a part of it.
The last house of the day was...
Scorpio- This house was also very pretty looking. I liked talking to the girls there but at some points it seemed like we were running out of things to say. I also think this house was a little difficult just because it was the last house of the day. I'm not really sure how I feel about this house quite yet.
Sorry I wrote so much but this is kind of me trying to get my thoughts together on the whole thing. Tomorrow between 9 and 11 we go in to find out who asked us back and if its more than 5 houses then we narrow it down to 5 and then at 12:15 we meet to start house tours. O also from reading some posts here I'm surprised to say we were able to bring our purses in with us, all the girls rushing were wearing jeans and actually some were more casual and some of the houses were all dressed identically. Just some things I noticed throughout the day lol. I'm already very excited for tomorrow.

I am glad to hear that your first day of recruitment went so well!
Don't discount Gemini because of their mentoring program. Pretty much every chapter at my school has a "bid day buddy" of some sort who is an initial mentor before you get your big. At Sig Kap, we call them heart sisters; Theta has kite sisters; AOPi has panda pals; Zeta has strawberry sisters, etc. This way, you have someone to connect with right away (often someone you met during recruitment), and then you choose your big (and she chooses you) later into your new member period. Sometimes your heart sister can be your big as well. We also do senior shadows, which is a nice way to get the seniors involved and makes them less intimidating. Having several mentor figures makes the chapter more unified and less cliquey because you bond with more sisters. Your big will still be the central figure during your new member period and for the rest of your sorority experience. My Sigma Kappa family is extremely close, testament of the big-little program.
I am really excited to hear about the rest of recruitment for you! Good luck tomorrow!

I agree with JessSigKap- don't discount the mentoring programs, they're in place to help you get the most out of your sorority experience. My collegiate chapter is looking into getting involved in a "slightly-older sister" program, where each member of the chapter is mentored by an alumnae member throughout her undergrad. career. This is in addition to her big sis of course.

Ok well today was house tours. I went today to find out what houses I got invited back to and I was cut from capricorn, virgo and scorpio. So today I went to Gemini, Aquarius, Libra and Pisces. I have to admit I was a little dissapointed when I received my invites because our recrutiment conselours has made it seem like almost no one gets cut the first day so I wasn't really expecting it. But then I found out alot of girls received cuts and near the end of the day when I was sooo tired I was kind of glad I only had four houses I had to go to lol. Actually 2 of the houses that cut me cuz aloooooot of girls, I guess there very selective. I figure in the end your only going to end up at one house anywayz.
So the first house of the day was....
Gemini- I went here first again today. I really enjoyed it again and the girls were all really nice but I still don't feel like I fit in there. There house was really cute and I liked there theme for the day. I also am not sure if i liked it more because it was the first house of the day, I do hope I get asked back her again for skit day. At the moment this is probably my second favorite.
The next house was...
Aquarius-I really liked this house again. I was glad that they had everyone in the living room and kind of staggered who started touring the house so that everyone wasn't trying to tour people at once. I loved there house and could definitley see myself living there. I've liked everyone I've talked to at that house so far. I'm reallly hoping to get asked back there tomorrow and I'm really scared/nervous for it.
The 3rd house was...
Libra-This house was really spacious. They had a nice slideshow that they showed us that I liked. The girls were really friendly but I just don't feel totally comfortable there. There house is also veery far away and I already live kind of far away this year and I know it is something I'm not really interested in.
The last house of the day was...
Pisces- If I had had the choice I was planning on cutting this house but I didnt mind going there. The girls are really nice and friendly and you can tell they enjoy there house. There were a few things I did not like, such as them having a bar in there basement and that there sorority is really small. If they invite me back, I will probably go back but I'm unsure if thats where I'd want to be permanetley.
So today was a really tiring day but also interesting. One thing i felt bad about is that after awhile I would run out of questions to ask at the different sorority member and I felt like maybe they would interpret that as me being uninterested but I just really wasn't sure what else to ask. I'm very scared about my invites for tomorrow, especially because I've already grown very attatched to Aquarius. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be updating with good news.
