When I was at WIU, the women's teams did not use Rocky...they had their own logo/mascot. I know the administration was worried that some people would call the women's teams the "Lady Leathers", which would not go over well in conservative Macomb, Illinois.
I miss the Wranglers, though. They were pretty entertaining...I mean for the stories of their misbehavior, not so much for their dancing.

So true. If they were Greek, they would have been shut down for hazing in no time flat. And their dancing was entertaining, if you were the kind of person that finds strip clubs entertaining.

Then again, there are the Williams College Ephs. Their mascot is a purple cow. I found this out researching a cross country runner who beat our star in a big meet. Here's their athletics page.

My high school was the Cotter Warriors, but my boyfriend and I decided "Cotter Criminals" would have been better, since we went through our yearbooks and an unusually high percentage of our schoolmates have been to jail. And my high school had a reputation for being the poor, but tough, kids from the wrong side of the tracks.
My college's mascot is the Scots (for guys) and Pipers (for girls). Yes, like Scottish men and bagpipers. We also have the Annual Arkansas Scottish Festival. Let's just say it's a good thing I like bagpipes...
We used to be the Arkansas College Lambs though, according to lore, so I think Angus McFierce, the Scot, is a much scarier mascot, at least by comparison!

My high school team: the Trojans
My high school mascot: Trojan Man
I won't tell you what the opposing team used to throw out onto the field when our football team came parading out...

Clarification
[QUOTE=VandalSquirrel]The Maniacs of Orofino, Idaho are kind of odd. http://www.sd171.k12.id.us/ohs/index.htm The town of Orofino has an Idaho State Correctional Institution that was a mental hospital. They claim the high school mascot has nothing to do with the state mental hospital or the prison but I have a hard time believing that.]
Uh...believe it. Before I was Delta Theta I was born and raised in Orofino and the Maniac name has NOTHING to do with either. It's best not to go there with anyone from Orofino.

I was always told he was a miner type of guy, like a crazy old man from the hills. But it is an ironic coincidence!

OMG...no. One of our most beloved teachers who is now dead had an FBI composite artist draw The Maniac for us.
And, the name was dubbed Maniacs because the basketball team in the
1920's had gone to play another team. Too poor to afford team uniforms they were out there in their logging gear and farm gear. The reporter there said they looked like a "bunch of Maniacs" out there and it stuck. Every few years some do-gooder from outside of the area will try and campaign to change it. I think people would fight tooth and nail if it ever came down to it. Also, when the new HS was built in the early 70's the kids voted to change or keep the name. Obviously we know what won.
Also, the prison and the State Hospital are two separate entities. They just share the same campus. SHN has been there for decades. The prison which started as a women's facility developed in the 80's.
Never did I think we would be discussing the Maniac on Greek Chat...
Now, are you going to be at the chapter house next week?

Second, it makes no sense and isn't even cool, but I always had a mascot-crush on the Nittany Lion, but only the version that runs around at games:

One of my former coworkers was from Orofino so I've seen the mascot on the shirt. I had no idea about the prison or the hospital until she told me one day when we mailed purchases there.
And yes, I will be around this weekend, you can find me removing wallpaper from the guest bathroom and asking The Foz (aka Margaret) to find me a wealthy first born man from a farm to marry. If you're going to be here we MUST go out somewhere silly like The Burp on Mingles.

We're the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga Mocking Birds. I swear! Needless to say no one fears us and we go by 'The Mocs'
Quick History:
We were the Moccasins (Indian...feather not dot, but someone didn't think was PC enough) Then we went to the Moccasin shoe, don't know what happened with this, but then we went to Scrappy, the mocking bird, who wears engineer clothing and drives a train. I'd post a picture, but I don't know how.
