Not to be a bitch, but is there a reliable source... not just opinion websites?
I'm not a fan of George Bush, but I really am curious what context this was taken out of.

No matter if that picture is real or not...he was giving a speech for VJ Commemoration Day at Naval Base Coronado on August 30...and that is where the picture says he was. The picture posted by Sistermadly says September 1st because that is when the website published it.
Here is another picture of it...

Hope that helps! (Not being a bitch either!!)

In my opinion, the time and place is CNN, MSNBC, FOX news network, ABC, NBC, CBS, every major news source in the country. The remarks were made during a benefit concert and I still believe that you attract more flies with honey (ie. can raise more money with a hopeful, positive, sympathetic attitude, rather than an angry one). Numerous people have made similar comments on all of the cable news shows, and I agree with the comments.
I think there is no excuse for not having provided a means of evacuation for all of those people. I think there is no excuse to not have had food and water ready to go in by Tuesday. I think there is no reason to have had hospitals trying to operate under those conditions. This was botched big time and lives were lost because of it. We can only hope that we've learned from this one and things will change in the future.
ETA: And I don't buy the photo op propaganda of Bush's visit to Mississippi where he's hugging a young African American girl. How convenient to show that after those comments were made. "See, I care about African Americans, I even hugged one" being the message.

But opinions change and hearts are won over by carefully constructed photo ops.
As for me, I'm not buying it. He lost me a long time ago, but when I saw that photo of him playing guitar on vacation while the Gulf Coast was being inundated, I lost what ethereal wisps of respect I could have mustered for the man.

It's an Associated Press photo, shot by Martha Raddatz, taken while Bush was visiting California either on August 31 or September 1, 2005.
But regardless of the date, everybody knew the hurricane was coming - a Category 5, catastrophic event, not just your run of the milll rainstorm. I think the man should have interrupted his photo op to, I don't know, return to Washington ahead of the storm just to make sure that Homeland Security lived up to its mission?
But what do I know - maybe I expect too much from the leader of the free world.

First Kanye, now Celine Dion:
"There's people still there waiting to be rescued. To me that is not acceptable," she yelled. "I know they have reasons for it. But I don't want to hear those reasons. ... How can it be so easy to send planes in another country to kill everybody in a second and destroy lives. We need to serve our country."
Who knew she was an American citizen?

I wanted to bow to Kanye when I heard about this. I was at work when this happened. He called folx out and it was well deserved.
I hope his CD sales skyrocket! I will be buying his latest on Friday.
Right now I am listening to Vancouver's news 1130. My friend works for them. There is a poll asking Canadians if they plan on donating. Over 55 percent don't plan on it...I am fine with that. BUT the reasons were disgraceful. The main one was I don't like the US politics. WTF? This is SO not about politics! This is about people being stranded...there are quite a good number of Canadians stranded there too.
The people who have this attitude should be ashamed of themselves

Denial is not just a river in Egypt...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As blatant as the pictures were--live and up front on ALL MEDIA circuits the only point to Hurricane Katrina is to open a whole can of folks who basically kept swept under a rug. Then they got swept down Ole Man River... And I am NOT even close to joking...
And as far as Mayor Nagin preparedness level goes, he has never done disaster relief and has little experience is managing one of the worst natural disasters in the Untied States. That in no way is an excuse. But he did trust the "FEDERAL authorities" to tell him what his city services will be capable of doing when Hurricane Katrina hit... And at best, are you folk pissed of at Kanye West's statements trying to tell me (and only me, not anyone else) that this is the BEST that the FEDS can do for disaster preparedness?
How Mayor Nagin not know that the levees were only built to sustain a category 3 or 4 hurricane is beyond me.
Nevertheless, hindsight is always 20/20...
And the fingerpointing game will be continued after these few words by our commercial (spelled=BIG TICKETED IN THE BILLIONS CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTORS) sponsors... Oh, did I say that out loud...
If it matters, I watched CNN yesterday (before this was aired) and made it a point to see how many people he greeted from each race, and it was kinda equal as far as I saw. So I duno.
I don't like Bush. I don't agree with how long it took. I do believe that the benefit was about raising money for the victims, not bringing up politics. I do believe that ALL victims need to be helped and out of there. I do believe that the people going around shooting people and raping people are scum of the earth and could rot there for all I care... and honestly I don't know what color they are and to me that wouldn't matter.
I was thinking the same thing. Me think her stay in Vegas has clouded her reality.
