Kanye West Rips Into Bush during live feed

Any thoughts on this? I'm on the West Coast so we got the edited version since it wasn't live for us but if you check out the link, you can check out what he said.

Kanye West's Comments. Right or Wrong?

lifesaver 09-03-2005 05:21 AM

Deservedly so.

Probably not professional, but deserved.

It's on bittorent already. Loved Mike Myer's expression when Kayne West said it.

Ditto.

I think there is a time and place for expressing those types of opinions and that wasn't the time and place. Our local NBC station delayed the concert an hour but I saw it live on MSNBC. I thought, when they replayed it on the local station, it would be cut out, but it wasn't. When the Dixie Chicks did something similar (spoke against Bush during a concert), radio stations cut their air time and a big deal was made about it. We'll see what happens this time.

Prior to this hurricane, Bush's approval rating was the lowest it has ever been.

I don't like Kanye West, but tonight he said something that a lot of black folks have thought about the GOP in general, and this President in particular, for a long time.

I applaud him for saying it, though I can't imagine what this will do to his album sales.

Video's here: http://media.putfile.com/Kanye79

Mike Myers face at that moment - hell, during West's whole spiel - is priceless. So polite. So Canadian!

And yeah, even though I agree with what he said, time and place much, Kanye?

Leslie Anne 09-03-2005 08:39 AM

Wow! Thanks for that link. I missed the whole thing so it was hard to picture exactly how it happened.

ZTAngel 09-03-2005 09:26 AM

It definitely wasn't the time or place for it but I agree with Kanye.

LOL...Mike Myers' face is priceless. He looks like a mix between a deer caught in headlights and shock.

lots of frustration out there...

PM_Mama00 09-03-2005 10:05 AM

I posted about this in the Katrina thread last night and I'm sorry but he really made me sick. This wasn't a time or place to bring up political things. If he cared so much about bringing aid to "his people", then he should have shut his mouth and followed the teleprompter.

I hate the way they portray us in the media. We see a black family that says they're looting. We see a white family that says they're looking for food & you know it's been five days because most of the people are black & even for me to complain about I would be a hyprocrite because I try to turn away from the TV because it's too hard to watch. I've even been shopping before even giving a donation, so now I'm calling my business manager right now to see what's the biggest amount that I can give. And just to imagine if I was down there, those are my people down there, so anybody out there that wants to do anything with the setup the way America is setup to help the poor, the black people, the less well off as slow as possible. I mean the Red Cross is doing everything they can. We already realize that a lot of the people that can help are at war right now fighting another way andthey've given them permission to go down & shoot us."

That's the whole "speech" thingy he did, some of it isn't in that clip. I'm sorry I'm tired of hearing about this. Yes, the poor black AND WHITE people stranded on the highways and Super Dome and convention center needed aid first. Actually I'd say that the HOSPITAL needed aid first. But there are so many people who are stranded, not just the poor and black.

Since Kanye is such a pro on Jesus to make a song about him, maybe he should think about what Jesus would do and help EVERYONE, not just "his people".

So how do you explain the decision to evacuate non-essential medical personnel from the (privately funded) Tulane Hospital, when right down the street, critically ill patients and essential medical personnel were left stranded on the roof of the (public) Charity Hospital - a hospital that mainly serves poor, black, and indigent patients?

The hurricane, flooding, and destruction are not political. How the relief efforts are being handled certainly appear to be.

PM_Mama00 09-03-2005 11:50 AM

I'm not saying that I agree with the way everything is being handled, because I'm not there and I don't see it. So perhaps my opinion on this isn't very valid because I'm not there.

I think ALL hospitals, families with young children/babies, elderly and those with medical needs should have been first.

sugar and spice 09-03-2005 11:52 AM

I don't think this will affect Kanye's album sales THAT much. His audience is quite a bit different from the Dixie Chicks. I imagine they're far less conservative on the whole.

Why not? Desperate times call for desperate measures.
