Also, below is a link to Keisha Alfred Audition. I can honestly say that I am not impressed with Ms. Alfred's audition. Did she just mess up our Founders name? Who is OC? Why is she saying that our Founders are selecting the African Violet as our official flower? You would think that they would get the basics right. Maybe I should not be so quick to judge this project, but I am certainly not impressed with this documentary so far.

Oh then maybe that is what they did--changed the names to protect the uninvolved.

At first I thought they did...but when I went to that sight it clearly stated that it was about DST. I'm like how can they do that without permission. It makes me nervous. I don't want us to be misrepresented...ya know. They should have asked permission and then ONLY allowed Sorors to be involved. I mean if they are going to use the actual names of our ILLUSTRIOUS FOUNDERS!

I even saw an Alpha Chapter soror. The great-granddaughter of Founder Vashti Turley Murphy was also there.

Nikki Young .. I have forgotten her married name. I think its Parker, but I am not sure. She is on the footage of the casting call and she gives her name. I thought it looked like her and she confirmed when she told the guy her name.

I don't know who you're talking about, but Nikki Parker is Monique's character on "The Parkers." Just thought that might help you figure her last name out.

That's my point. Maybe they "fictionalized" the names to get around legal issues since it is not sanctioned by us.

I sure hope so, but in that audition that I saw...they used the names of our founders. Even when referencing the violet...the person in the background mentioned Frank Coleman. They better have their _____ together if they aren't changing names.

Well in the trailer of the actual movie, they seemed to mispronounce names. So that is why I was speculating that it was done on purpose.

Oh ok...I gotcha. It will be very interesting to see what becomes of it. Are any of the Sorors in your area talking about it?

Soror I do not think that they are mispronouncing the names to get around any legal issues. If you remember on the audition casting footage Rosalyn’s husband Craig mispronounced Delta Sigma Theta. I cannot remember what he actually said, but all of the ladies auditing for a part in the documentary had to correct him. That is when he made the statement that he wanted to get the name right because he did not want to get bet up by any sorors. This documentary is just going to be sub par. Also, did anybody check out the actress who is playing Nellie’s Quander’s part? I guess it is unfair to judge this documentary based upon an excerpt of the footage, but why is the actress that is portraying Nellie Quander doing all this eye blinking and why is this actress so soft spoken? This documentary is going to be a mess.
Can any sorors answer my question? I know that celebrities are considered public figures so that is why Entertainment Tonight and other media outlets can use their pictures in a news segment about them. I want to know if an organization’s “image” (image is not the word that I want to use, but I cannot think of another word at the moment) be considered as a public property, since the organization is considered prestigious?

Black Sorority Project Moving Forward
Sorors it appears that the producers of this movie are entering another phase in this project. On their calendar it indicates that they have conducted interviews on September 17, 2005 for the Black Sorority Project. I think it would be very interesting to know who they interviewed for this project because the casting interviews left a bad impression.

I had thought of bumping this thread because I wondered what was going on with the project. I was suppose to e-mail some info about this to my chapter president since last month, but I'll do it in the morning.
I still have a bad feeling about it.
