i got an email about it this morning...

the woman seems legit in her field.
as to the movie being specifically about DST, that hasnt been confiremd anywhere has it? cause ive heard speculation otherwise.

it sounds like they are looking at all the sororities, and the actors are just for illustration. I'd love to see the finished product:)

i sent in my resume for a position as a volunteer. i would love to see how it turns out.

i wonder if they received permission from National.

By process of elimination, they have to be talking about DST...1913....22 Black women...founding of a Black sorority.

Just curious, but what have you heard to the contrary? Could it be from the AKA point of view? Then they would need at least 20 more Black women!

Completely off tangent but I thought one of the fraternities was doing something similar, ie re-enacting events surrounding the founding of their organization. It may just be a idea that is floating around right now or it could have been requested. I'm sure we'll find out eventually and since it's going to be shot in about a month I'm sure we'll find out before the end of the year.

I guess for me the bottom line is no official word from HQ, then no credibility. It seems something would have gone out from the A&L Commission if this was sanctioned by DST.

I would also venture to say that if sorors participated without approval from the national president, there could be some issues.

does anyone know if the director is greek affiliated, specifically a member of DST? i googled around, and i didnt get anything.

also, why would your HQ need to approve the movie? sure, i could see your organization would want some input to make sure things were being represented appropriately. but would the higher ups of your exec. council (im not sure what you'd call it) really need to sign off on it? is it similar to signing off the rights of a person's life to a production company?

If someone decided to make a movie about your life wouldn't you want to have approval on how you were portrayed? But it goes deeper than that, which members of DST would understand.

point well taken.

and of course there's copywrite issues, using names, titles, etc. without permission, etc.

carry on.

Black Sorority History Project on DST

I see that this project is moving forward. Did anyone attend the casting session that took place sometime this month? The website http://www.blacksororityproject.com/ has footage from the casting session. My computer at home will not load the actual footage from the casting session. I am hoping that someone who can view the session will post what happen here.

Per the website for the project-

"Set at Howard University in 1912, this film will chronicle the events of the founding of Delta Sigma Theta. "

I watched the footage from the casting. It looks as if it may be a really nice film. I just wished is had blessing from Grand Chapter so that I could feel comfortable that our founding will be accurately portrayed. There were some sorors at the castings. I even saw an Alpha Chapter soror. The great-granddaughter of Founder Vashti Turley Murphy was also there.

Intense1920 06-22-2005 12:34 PM

Wow. They're actually going to make the movie?! But couldn't this open them up for a potential lawsuit?

DSTined 06-22-2005 12:40 PM

I think that the person gave the cocept and ideas for the movie is an Alpha. It's supposed to start out in 1912 which makes me wonder how our founding will come across. I'm not sure about approval from HQ, but if not they will be on it.
