a few years ago, i remember hearing that mtv was filming rw in dallas, my hometown. as a matter of fact, and i know i'm admitting a moment of "dorkdom" but i have the rw book that was published after rw seattle and there was an application in the back of the book for the dallas cast.

My curiosity is now at a new level...... What happened to make you say it is such a racist town? It must be pretty huge because Austin is one of the most liberal cities in Texas! Travis county even won Kerry. It was one of a handful of counties in Texas that Bush didn't win. In 2000 I went to visit my best friend who went to UT and I saw more Ralph Nader stickers than Bush or Gore stickers combined. All that aside, I LOVE austin, even though I am a right wing conservative wacko.
SXSW is an awesome event that I hope to one day experience. My aunt lives there and I know she goes every year and just raves about it. While it is only one week long, it takes A LONG time to plan. I could see the RW cast working for them. Maybe they'll work at the Frank Erwin Center on some special events promotion. I don't have a clue, but it'll be fun to watch.

Wow...i think thats the first time i've ever heard (or read) someone think Austin is a racist town. I grew up in Austin and being a Mexican (parents are from mexico) I dont think i've ever experienced any ounce of racism. Then again I could be biased seeing how thats my home town and after living in San Antonio for the past 5 years im soooo ready to move back!
Austin is a great place and I can't wait to move back after graduation..whoo hoo!!!
Oh..I thought SXSW was two weeks long? Isnt it one week is for the film festival and another week is the music festival? I remember it being like that but i could be wrong.

it's roughly a week long, because typically the film festival starts one weekend and goes through wednesday or so, and the music part starts on wednesday night with the music awards, and is over on sunday. the two parts are separate for the most part, and the interactive media portion kind of overlaps both, but the entire thing only spans a weeks time.

I have to disagree with whoever said for the RW to choose Charlotte, NC for a season. If God wanted to give the South an enima (sp?), it would be Charlotte, NC!! I lived there for 5 years and Charlotte has to be the most overrated city as far as "greatness" and "cool-factor" one could get. There is a reason it is the second largest banking city in the United States (Seattle, Washington being the first). That reason being: Charlotte is COVERED with banks! There is absolutely nothing to do. The only fun places to go to in Charlotte is Panthers' games (if you like football), the Comedy Club and the Blumenthal Theatre. There is only one upscale mall and it's not very inviting.
Charlotte, NC is about the most boring and stuffy city in the world. Atlanta on the other hand is a different story. Atlanta has been a big city for a much longer time than Charlotte and the Atlanta officials know how to make that city exciting. Charlotte on the other hand is the Dullsville capital of the world.
Okay off my soapbox.

Austin is a nice choice, but I was hoping that they do one of the following cities:
Toronto
Edmonton
Montreal
Dallas, TX
Nashville, TN
St. Louis, MO
Phoenix, AZ
I want for a Canadian city to host RW. My top choice would be Toronto. Give Canada a chance, MTV.

Lots of great gossip about their house and the cast, links, pictures, sightings (there has already been a fight) - detailed here:
http://www.therealworldaustin.com/
The rumors are that they will be working with a local award winning filmmaker, so it makes sense that their project may intersect with SXSW music and film fest.

cool!
If you live down there you may be on TV soon
For those who don't want to dig through the whole message board on www.therealworldaustin.com --- here is the link directly to the cast and house pictures -
http://therealworldaustin.com/coppermine/index.php
For those that know Austin the house is at 3rd and San Jacinto, near the big hotels and Convention Center and within walking distance to most of downtown. Until a few weeks ago this was a somewhat rundown empty warehouse.
For those who haven't been to Austin there are some great pictures of the town under the 'Tour Austin' heading.

One of my best friends from college is from Austin; she moved back after college. She's been trying to get me to go there for SXSW...it's during my Spring Break, which is great! I've heard nothing but good things about it, and I actually applied to UT for grad school.

I KNEW IT!! I went to the Baylor/UT bball game a few weeks ago and we stayed at the Four Seasons (on San Jacinto) and as we were walking back to the hotel I was thinking, that dang house has got to be down here somewhere. Where else would it be?! COOLNESS

Johanna is/was a student at UC Riverside (not sure if she graduated yet) and yes, she was affiliated (she disaffiliated).
The pictures on the website someone listed on the thread are mostly from fraternity/sorority functions at UCR from the past 2-3 years.
This should be interesting...

I knew it. See the ftolowing conversation I had with someone tonight on a music website (reckless kelly):
lifesaverTX: so do they have the real world kids workign for SXSW?
SWTfan: no they are not working with us
lifesaverTX: or do you have to say that. hahha
SWTfan: no its the truth
lifesaverTX: just figured in austin they'd have
them doing one of 2 things; workign for
the legislature, or SXSW
SWTfan: well I can say they are doing
something with SXSW but not with our
office
lifesaverTX: hahhah. I knew it. hahhahahah
