that's crazy!
how could they possibly be on probation because of their profiles??!

Underage drinking directly related to the sorority and possible hazing, featured on several Facebook profiles. Yikes.

ETA- I think it's probation from their nationals, not the school.

Mel and I discussed the fact that this makes it pretty easy to figure out which sororities the Rho Chis are from, too. Even if they don't mention it on their profile -- scroll down to their friends' list and page through it and chances are you can figure it out.

You're right because if you're in a sorority on Facebook it's pretty likely that 90% of their friends are their sorority sisters. I know mine are.

I am not criticising . . .

Is it a good idea to put that much of your personal information out there with your picture?

Isn't it an advertising scheme also so that you will end up going into advertisers demographic studies and lists?

I don’t know if there is a magic number of requests needed to get onto Facebook but the posters on my school’s message board have been sending them a barrage of requests; no luck yet though. It’s pretty irritating not being on there considering we have a student body of 35,000, are located in the fourth largest city in America and have a student body ranked as the most diverse in the nation. I’d like to think some of these facts would make us ideal for a site such at this.

Texas schools on Facebook:
Baylor
SMU
Texas A&M
Texas Christian University
Texas State University
Texas Tech
University of Texas
University of Texas at Arlington
University of Texas at San Antonio

UH, no.

For some reason, people seem to think that because the facebook is limited to your school, it's okay to put up your address/phone number/whatever and you won't have any problems. This is ridiculous.

However, I would like to point out that if somebody's smart enough or desperate enough, they'll be able to get your info anyway -- when I was younger, some guy managed to figure out my full name, address and phone number based on my email address. At my school alone we've got the Greek stalker book and the student directory -- it's not like the stuff on the facebook is all that much different. I'm sure that it wouldn't be that hard for someone to figure out who I am simply based on what I've posted on GC -- and it would be especially easy to stalk me last year, when I lived in the house. Face it -- your info is not as hard to find as you probably think it is.

But try to give your stalkers a little work to do on their own. I would definitely not recommend putting up your address or home phone number on that thing.

Is there more to the process then just sending your school's information?

I think The Facebook also has to get so many "requests" from students as well.

I'm definitely addicted to the facebook and with finals just a few days away, it could be trouble. It definitely has a few pros... started talking to so many sisters from other chapters and catching up with old childhood friends, but it sure has its cons too... there are so many psychos out there, ya really gotta keep an eye out. The concept is great, but there will always be a few people who use the information the wrong way. Just gotta make sure not to give too much personal info, then you're just looking for problems.
