Judging by some of the responses to the article (on the Pitt news forum), there will be many people who won't let this die. I hope not, but my gut tells me this will come back to haunt Chris professionally.

Well in this case the administrator has already announced she's leaving - so it really doesn't make a damn bit of difference what she says. The next person in could fire him lickety split.
And I agree with everything honeychile said. I don't think this guy wants to be a career Greek administrator. He wants to be a Pitt Greek administrator. That's what the school needs now - someone who wants to help THAT system, not someone who will collect feathers for his cap and move on. We've seen the disastrous consequences of that at other schools.

Even so, university administrations can be very fickle. He might want to stay at Pitt, but one screw-up, tick off the wrong person, and this can be used as an excuse to drum him out. I've seen it happen MANY times, and after five years as Greek adviser at the same school, I can understand how he feels, but you can never let your guard down. There are very few campuses where the Greek Adviser's position isn't so far down the ladder that it isn't subject to the whims of other administrators.

That's what I just said dude. When you said "professionally" I thought you meant if he goes hither and yon to whatever school is paying the Greek advisor the most that day. Hence my second point.

When most Greek Advisers go "hither and yon" most of them are going straight out of Greek Life. There are very, very, few schools that pay more than $35,000 a year. That's why so many of them are so young and leave so often. After five years in the field, I'm a "veteran" Greek adviser (still planning on staying where I am), and when I go to the Association of Fraternity Advisors conference next month, I will be surrounded by new advisors. The reality is, most schools don't value the position much, and financially, most have to move on to move up at all. It sucks, because it just perpetuates all of the problems.

God, I hope this doesn't happen. Pitt seems to be extremely unlucky when it comes to finding and keeping a Greek Affairs person. And what the Greek system doesn't need is another month, or more, long period of someone who doesn't know anything about Greeks stepping in and changing stuff.
Maybe Pitt would find better people if they offered more money......?

Can you tell me what happened with the Kings Court that pissed off so many people? I'm out of the Pittsburgh loop and I was just curious.
Also, are you from Pittsburgh and go to school in Ohio? Or vice versa? PM me if you'd rather

Tracy - they had turned Kings Court into the Beehive which was a cool coffeehouse and then they put a bar (the Pollinator) in the top floor too. You could actually fit a band in there! It was awesome. Mr 33 and I went there on like our 3rd date .
Oakland Real Estate jacked the rent up to some obscene amount and the club closed abruptly ticking off everyone in the free world. It was right after Grafitti closed so everyone was already agitated over that.

Lots of people were upset because it was a popular hangout for the punk rock kids, there were rocky horror shows there, and generally it was a "DIY" type of place. I spent many a night there when I was first geting into the punk rock scene.
Graffiti was an AWESOME venue as well, I went to my first show EVER there. Now Laga is closing (or is closed?), and The World is in tumult, there's very few smaller venues for bands to play any more.
I am born and raised in Pittsburgh and I go to school in Ohio. I love Pittsburgh more than anything!! I'm coming home on Friday to go to Kennywood's haunted house, and I'm going to Eat N Park. No one out here understands Eat N Park.

Dare I say that the article seemed to be "fair and balanced"?

For the Pitt News, I believe both articles were quite fair and balanced!

Especially when there's a "reason" that needs to be soaked up by a pancake or two!
