Greek Advisor at Pitt- DUI charges, how would you feel?
The new greek advisor at Pitt was arrested for DUI right after he became the greek advisor (link: http://www.pittnews.com/vnews/displa.../4173355df1ef0 )
How would you feel about someone that's supposed to enforce the rules and guide groups in what they should do being arrested for something like this? I'm not passing judgement either way, especially b/c I used to know him well, but I think it's an interesting situation. |

the Advisor realized that and he was open about his Arrest. Plus, He took time to explain the situation to the student body, especially the Greek Orgs. He seems honest and passioniate about being committed to improving Greek Life at Pitt. As long as He stay focused, He'll be fine. |
DUI isn't that big of a deal. ITs more of a PC crime.
I am not going to think any less of a person. Maybe if he wiped out a family of four . . . . |
To me, it'd depend on his BAC. While I know it's wrong to do it and we shouldn't condone it, hey, if they guy was pulled over for having 1 or 2 beers, then driving, that's one thing. If the guy chug-a-lugged a fifth of Jack and went joyriding, that's another.

That happened at ISU this summer: the Assistant Dean of Students, who worked closely with the Director of Greek Affairs and was the faculty advisor for Lambda Chi Alpha got pulled over with a BA level of .12.
I think he resigned instead of becoming yet another point of controversy at ISU like Eustachy, the former basketball coach, caused. Regardless, I just talked to him last week and he's working to finish his PhD and is doing freelance consultation instead of working for ISU now. He's been one of my mentors over the past four years, so I feel a bit of a loss with him preparing to leave ISU before I do. |
Well it depends where he had been...if he was coming home from Dee's or Chief's (home of 65 cent beers) I would cut him some slack. But if he was at Donzi's, fire his ass. :p
Seriously, if he got pulled over under the Birmingham Bridge, he could have had one beer - that's kinda what happened to me - it's a checkpoint/trap and the cops that sit there are a-holes. I was tired, not drunk, and I'm sure the officer felt silly when I blew a .01. Meanwhile there are people whipping thru East Liberty at 80 MPH. He's made a mistake, he'll deal with it and move on. |
They shouldn't fire the man. He wasn't even working for the university when he got arrested. To me, it's really none of PITTs business. Plus, the PITT news should be more focused on all of the sexual harrassment cases going around.

No, seriously, DUI is a HUGE fucking deal, no matter what the BAC level is. I had friends in high school killed by a drunk driver. My friend's mom was paralyzed by a guy who had "just two beers". DUI is NEVER EVER OK. I don't think this guy should lose his job, but I think his ass should be fined to oblivion. I also think it is goign to be pretty damn hypocritical to listen to someone lecture about not drinking at Greek events when he's been arrested for DUI. I'm sorry, but I will definitely think much less of a person for driving drunk.

PhoenixAzul,
You are extrapolating specific tragic events to encompass a huge amount of situations. There are wide variations of driving with alcohol in your system. 33girl: In some places in NJ as a result of "John's Law" if you blow anything they will charge you with DUI anyway, forcing you to get an attourney. Especially in small towns. Also, why can't he lecture on alcohol? Since when do you have to be a saint to be right ir be credible? If a felon tells you your house is on fire, you should check and take precautions. :p Quote:

I don't think the Greek advisor should be lecturing about not drinking, anyway...that isn't his job. The sororities are the ones who make the alcohol-free mixer rules, not the school or any employees of the school. And from what I gather, alcohol consumption in the fraternity houses is OK there, unless the fraternity's national forbids it. |

I'm not saying he has to be a saint, but being a drunk driver and trying to tell kids to be responsible with alochol is hypocritical. When I was younger, I did peer sex education, where I taught classes about contraception and STD's...now if I would have gotten pregnant or had uprotected sex, I think that I would have been a hypocrit to stand up there and lecture about how you shouldn't have sex without a condom. Pitt does hate to look bad. Although most of Oakland allready thinks that Pitt is the devil because they own so much land. People are still pissed off about the old Beehive (Kings Court, across the street from Pitt Law). I think the reason they finally overturned the same sex benefits was because they were catching so much shit from the press about it. The chancellor there seems to be a bit of a twat. |

In my opinion, you should never EVER drive drunk. Call a friend, a taxi, whatever. A lot of bars will find you a sober ride if you need one. The consequences can be way too harsh. I don't think he should lose his job though, since it has little to do with his job performance. |
Hey kiddo, it depends on whether you are educating or preaching doesn't it?
You can get pregnant while contracting The Clap (not to be confused with the Clapper) and still educate people about how not to get pregnant and The Clap. Now if you are preaching at people, that can be different, but neither you nor the Greek Advisor should being doing thatt anyway :) Quote:

While I agree with some things that you have said about the subject of this thread (i have personal reasons), it's not cool to totally diss on a school that many GCers go to. Especially by saying things that aren't true. I really don't think Chris will be asked to resign over this. It would've happened already- this took place a little while ago. |
