Here are ACTUAL people who I know with these names:

Hanskabel*(Greek origin - no joke - spelled just like that)
Xenofanes*(pronounced zee- NOF - FAN- ez -- Greek origin)
Ashantay* (this is not Greek, of course - accent on the first "A")
*NOTE: male names

ok, here's a story...when I used to volunteer at the public library, I sometimes had to call people to let them know that the book that they requested has been returned. One lady's name was (I KID YOU NOT!!!) Dolores DeCabezas!
I thought it was a joke, but when I asked for her on the phone she said that that was her! I couldn't believe it!
Dolores - in Spanish the "direct" translation means "pain" (but plural) and DeCabezas directly translates into "of the head".
What's funny is that her name means "Headaches" in Spanish!

What about (just having a little fun):

Midouri (MID-OH-RY)
Alapatta
Mobetta
Hewlett
Pegasus
Demo
Potpourri
Resume (accent at the end)
Lowenbreau (Low and bro, lol)
Lex
Mardi

How about this (and these are all real names!):
Deshontay (I know someone with that name And this is a guy's name. Needless to say, he named his child Lestat because "it sounded cute" Lestat is the name of a damn vampire!!! WTF?! )

Lovely (I know of at least 4 in the school where I teach)

Parisienne (pronounced Pari-seen-uh) I think that was a car back in the day.

Marquesia (pronounced Mar-key-see-uh)

Starlisha

I could go on....I know, and know of, too many ghetto fabulous people....

Ghetto-fabulous NOT!!

What burns me up is when people try to take a perfectly normal name and make it Ghetto-faulous.

My son's name is Jacques, as in Pepin (chef) or Cousteau (oceanographer). His name is pronounced in the French way, ZHOCK'. While at the doctor's office, this goofy nurse called his name as ja'-KWEZ. I was like WHO? After the third time, I figured she was calling us since she finally said the last name.

Now, I've heard it all. That's plain nasty.
Anybody stupid enough to do that to their child needs a hardcore azz whipping. Use a stun gun, a cattle prod, whatever.

Why do some of us do this to our kids? We have enough to deal with. No parent should saddle a child with a name like that or any "ghettofabulous" name.

When I was student teaching back in 98

I had a student who had a daughter. One day she showed me her daughter's pictures (precious little girl) and I asked her what was her name. She made this grand glorious production by writing it on the board.

First she wrote an A so I started thinking Ariane, Angela, etc.
NOPE!!
Then she wrote a U so I started thinking AUDREY
WRONG AGAIN
Then she wrote an N which I was clueless on

When she finished, she had written AUNESTY = HONESTY!!!!!!

I was PISSED becuase one day that baby is going to be in a spelling bee or something and her word will be honesty and she will be up at the microphone and spell her NAME!!

Anyway so then she told me what she planned to name her future kids: Integrity, Infinity and Justice. I told her might as well as Truth and Liberty for all.

My little brother once had a girlfriend named.......Courvosier (that's right...the liquor). By reading the previous posts, that name is pretty popular.

But this is what really tripped me out one day: I was at the nail salon getting a manicure and there was this black girl there with a LIME GREEN WEAVE, 10 inch fingernail claws, a gold framed tooth in her mouth and air-brushed designed toenails (I'm not even gonna get into what she was wearing). Girlfriend had a tongue ring and a tattoo on her arm of some guys name. So my friend was with me and she called my name. And the ghetto girl was like, "Oooooh, you're name is sooo pretty. I wish mine was, but it's so ugly." I was like, "oh, what's your name?" Mind you, I was expecting her to say Shawnquisha, Tajuanette, "Boomquisha," or something to that effect......she was like "My name is Susan Marie." Something wasn't matching up...
