My mom breast fed only me b/c apparently my siblings hated it. Then she loves to tell embarrassing stories about how I would yank on her blouse & bra to let her know I was hungry & I would always do it in public.

This does make a lot of sense, although a lot of work on your mom's part (good for her, though). Do you seem to be healthier than other people as a result?

I was breastfed exclusively for a few months, then had some of each for a few months, then I was strictly bottle fed.
When my mother decided to have some of my feedings come from a bottle, my pediatrician recommended that she start with the late night / overnight feedings. As he put it, "That way, when she gets hungry at three o'clock in the morning, your husband can feed her and you can sleep."
If and when I have kids, I will do the same thing if I am able.

Your husband can give the baby breastmilk in a bottle. Although many people mix formula feedings with breastmilk feedings, it wreaks havoc on the baby and really messes up your milk supply.
It's just as easy to take the baby into bed with you and nurse on demand through the night. You won't even remember waking up for the brief moment it takes to 'switch sides' and it's better for you both. Cosleeping is safe, too. In the early days, get a co-sleeper or sidecar the crib onto your bed and just move the baby in and out as needed.
Just my 2 shekels...

I learned a lot about cosleeping in both anthropology and psychology classes. It is so interesting what "western" countries do in comparison to much of the world. If I ever marry and have kids I will more than likely do the cosleeping, and I plan to breastfeed. It is natural and FREE!
My mother worked hard to get me to breast feed but as an infant I'd reject her. I liked breast milk, just not straight from the source. She used to have to fake me out with a nipple from a bottle. My refusal to nurse directly has been given as a reason for the strained relationship we've always had, or so some people think

Breast fed exclusively for the first year, and non-exclusively until I was almost 3 years old. Never had an ounce of formula. I have a good friend who is a pediatrician, and he was telling me that he sees so many problems come from babies who are bottle fed formulas rather than breast milk...
