Its not like he won with 75 percent of the vote. Now that would be historical. And he is the incumbent. So this should be more like a "whew" we survived this challenge.

ETA: I still believe that whoever wins the popular vote should win the presidency and if that person is W, then so be it.

"President Bush's decisive margin of victory makes this the first presidential election since 1988 in which the winner received a majority of the popular vote. And in this election, President Bush received more votes than any presidential candidate in our country's history," he said.

You may try to minimize the importance of this since your candidate didn't win..but the historical significance is here nonetheless. The Repubs have the Presidency, the House, and the Senate.. Dubya won this with ALL the media except Fox News against him, the Hollywood ultra liberals, and Michael Mooron campaigning... the 527's ... this man ran a tight campaign...and he deserved the win.

Was that really necessary? Your candidate won. What is it about you that keeps attacking a decent person like LadyGreek? I know this shouldn't be my fight, but it is just rather disturbing.

i am SOOOOOOOOO depressed about Bush winning. I want 2 move out of the country also because there is no way in HELL that I will fight in a war that I don't believe in and and a President that that is not worth 2 cents. Everyone needs to hold on tight and see how much more Bush is going to jack up the USA. I just pray that we don't experience anymore attacks, but with Bush is office I feel that we are all our lives are in danger.

Someplace where I can blend in, Jamaica sounds nice right now but hurricanes are a bit too much for me. Maybe I can brush up on my Spanish and head on to Brazil. The British Virgin Islands, hmmm....

I might go to Aruba or the Bahamas or something. A small island destination where I can blend in and work on my tan would be best for me!

Four elections = 16 years = 1988. Isn't that what I said? So why is it so historical? It was basically a two-party race, unlike some of the more recent races that had stronger third parties, thus of course someone would get the majority. AND this has been the largest voter turnout since 1968 and the population has increased, so what is the significance of it being historical?

For example, every year we say our sorority national conventions are the biggest in history. Well that is because our membership grows every year, so you would expect them to get bigger evey year. So being historical means nothing in that context.

And btw, Kerry got the second largest number of votes of any presidential candidate in our country's history.

Not browbeating. Just civility, unlike other parts of GC.

well i guess its /historical/important depending on what candidate you're supporting. The fact that he received more votes than any other President in HISTORY is significant...but again..i guess if you didn't vote for him one could care less LOL

And yes you're right about Kerry..he got the SECOND largest number of votes.

I do however agree with whoever wins the popular vote should win. The electoral college is outdated....but maybe everyone should stop complaining about it..and DO something about it..myself included.. I think it will take a constitutional amendment..

I'm going to spend the next several days praying for our country. The majority has spoken and have decided that they would like to continue along this ungodly path we have been on for the past four years. Yes, I did say ungodly. Despite all this talk about Bush's Christianity and "values", his actions have shown he is not a Christian and is morally bankrupt. I will pray for all the brave servicemen and women in Iraq. There is no need for them to be there. I will be praying for my 18 year old son and all the young people in our country. I'm quite sure the next step for Bush and his cronies will be to reinstate the draft. What have they got to lose? They don't have to worry about running for office again.

I love this country and would not want to live anywhere else in
the world. I have faith that the next election will be different. By that time the deficits should be doubled and more people out of work and without medical insurance. Maybe then folx will wake up.
