Fake NPCs for a story, need advice!

One of the mysterious and underground - never recognized - groups is TNE (Theta Nu Epsilon), which lives in mythology and in reality as a campus leadership/political group.

Sometimes it's said to be composed of the 'chosen' chapter presidents, and to accept a bid you had to reveal your GLO's secrets.

I hope you'll include such a group in your story.

Personally, I wouldn't call these organizations "NPCs", but rather some other made-up international name. I am too in the process of writing a book with made-up sororities in it and have had to change some of the orgs names because I found out that they already exist.

Sigma Phi was founded at Union College in New York in 1827. It's one of the fraternities known as the Union Triad (Kappa Alpha Society and Delta Phi are the others).
Sigma Pi was founded in 1897, so it has a long history too. Originally its name was Tau Phi Delta, but in 1907 the name was changed to Sigma Pi, according to Baird's.

I completed a manuscript (I haven't yet sent it for editing, representation and/or publishing yet) recently. I wrote a mystery involving members of several GLO's as the victims (don't worry, I made sure that the GLOs in the story were portrayed in the most positive light). When naming the GLO's, I tried my best to ensure that there were no actual GLOs with the letter combinations that I created. I wrote a disclaimer that the GLO's in the story were fictitious and that I went out of my way to ensure I did just that and apologize if there is an actual GLO with any of those letters as precaution .

I think that it is a wonderful idea that you are going to write the story. However, my advice is to write a disclaimer stating that you made the effort in creating original letter combos and apologize if there is a group out there that exists.

For the first day of Formal Recruitment, when they tell us about what not to do, they have this skit about avoiding giving out favors, etc. The fictional group all the Rho Chis belonged to in the skit was Rho Rho Rho. They lined up and chanted, "Rho Rho Rho, that's the way to go!" I still have that in my head 6 years later (more so than some of the real sorority chants!).

Uh-oh...went through Aries' site and found out that the GLO in my book exists or had existed at one point (I never looked at Aries' site! I just typed in the letters on a search and wasn't able to find a website.) My story will still make sense if I use the same letters but switch their order. Do you think I should do that? Or should I use a disclaimer? As far as I'm concerned, the GLO is not a national org (otherwise there'd be an official website). I am also worried about grammar when revealing the letters' meanings as I don't have a Classics background.

Maybe it'd be a good idea to use a disclaimer anyway. Just something like, "This is a work of fiction and not intended to represent a specific sorority or chapter." Otherwise no matter what you do, people will find similarities in it to something in some sorority and draw their own conclusions.

I think the whole idea of the story sounds cool. I hope we'll get a preview before it's published and you make millions from it!
