I've heard of most of these! I knew this would be a good topic bcause it always brings back family memories! LOL

I've heard of "the devil riding your back" alot. Some people have some real horror stories about that one. Some people feel like they're being suffocated(sp)!

Have you guys heard of the one where if your sleeping and you feel like you're falling you should try your best to wake up before you actually fall because that means death...or something like that.

I would always hear that if someone dreams about fish, it means that someone is pregnant. Don't talk about people while you are pregnant or your child might come out looking ugly Don't split poles; if someone sweeps your foot with a broom you should spit on it so you won't have bad luck If you spill salt, throw some over your shoulder for good luck.

Oh my, some of these are very interesting. On the common sense request of my sister I have stopped believing in most/all silly superstitions but sometimes I still abide by what my g-ma (grandma) told me. Here are some for yall:

1) If the doorbell rings or if you hear a knock at the door, but when you answer it no one is there well guess what you just let in those darn HAGS (ghost, spirits - good and bad) ;-) in NYC I think we prevent that by not answering our door.

2) If you drop KNIVES or forks (not sure about spoons) see which direction they land. If it is pointing toward you it means something different then if it were pointing away. Dang g-ma would be upset I did not pay attention to that one

3) Cut your hair only when there is a new moon and it will grow, actually a Hispanic friend of mine told me this one.

4) No walking under ladders, don't ask me why, some type of bad luck.

Well, like I said yall have some interesting ones, make me want to start believing again. I stopped because since my sister and I have been following God and the bible more closely some of these things don't make sense any more - doesn't fit in with reality.

I've heard that if a fork/spoon drops on the floor and it's facing upward, then company's coming -- hungry. But it it drops faced downward, then they're full.

Also, if a spider starts to drop down, don't kill it. If the spider makes it to the floor, then company's definately coming, but if it goes back up, then they've changed their minds.

Here's one: if a bird finds one/some of your hairs & uses it to help make their nest, you'll loose your mind (weaves don't count).

My mother definately believes in that one!! She burns her hair to this day! Hair is also one of the prime ingredients that folks use to put 'roots' on you, so you know folks was careful with their hair, finger/toe nail clippings, etc.

Here's a couple from my mother..

If your baby has an "outie" belly button, push it in with a fresh egg then bury the egg under the front porch. It will make the outie and inie!!

There should be no dirty clothes in the house on New Years eve. The day before NYE was always big time wash day in our house!

You know, this post had me thinking all weekend about all these superstitions. I thought of a few more:

1. You cannot attend a funeral if you are pregnant, if you do the baby will be mentally retarded or trouble.

2. If you go out in the first spring rain with nothing on your head, your hair will grow.

3.Do not count the stars in the sky or you will bring death to your family.

4. A newscaster here in Chicago says her family always believed if you washed a baby's face with their urine when they are first born, they will be pretty. All I can say is she's beautiful! ( She's from Texas).

I used to have so much trouble going to sleep because I was scared it was going to happen again. Boy, I had a lot of sleepless nights. I don't watch too many horror movies for that very reason. Especially horror movies like "The Exorcist" or "Amityville Horror". Just in case...
OhBOY me too! Happens so often I'm freaked when I go to bed. I've been known to hurl myslef clear out of bed with the force of trying to shake the thing holding me down!

Saw Amityville Horror at a drive in when I was 8. My "babysitter" left me and her 8 yr old brother in the car alone while she went into the snack bar to talk to friends. To this day that movie or any house shaped like that gives me the chills!

A few more:

1. If your husband puts his shoes under the bed, don't remove them. If you do, he will leave you.

2. If your hand itches, money is coming your way, but if you scratch the itch, you will not get the money.

3. Never let a pregnant woman comb your hair. It will make your hair fall out.

4. Never cross a black cat's path. You will have bad luck.

5. Never wash clothes on New Year's Day, because if you do, you will wash someone out of your family (death).

Ok I had to join in!

When someone does your hair you should never say thank you, say more hair!

If you count your braids your hair will fall out!

One should burn their hair that comes from their head (via comb, brush, falling out, any means)

If a baby is teething place a egg in the infants sock and hang it in the doorway to the childs room and teething wont hurts.

Giving a child a black fist charm wards of evil spirits, also the evil eye charm.

If you ears are ringing someone is talking about you so bite your tongue and they will choke on their words.

If your eye jumps ( I forget which one) then that's bad luck.

If a bird sh*ts on your head that's good luck! Go figure.

um uh rah I'll think of more!
And yes exquizit its me the orginal PN!!!!

Oh and call this a co-inky dinky but everytime a man gives me jewelry, we breakup and not long after the jewelry breaks! That's spooky! But I love jewelry!!!

"Don't hate me because I'm beautiful"
