Socials and exchanges???
Ok, so I know I've asked someone this question before... But I don't remember the answer.
What's the difference between socials and exchanges??? Are they the same, just have two different names??? Yeah, just kinda confused about that.

I have a question, how did the toga party go? We are thinking of having one with a fraternaty at our campus so i was just wondering if you had any tips or ideas. Can you get togas already made?

The toga party went really well. You can purchase pre-made togas (basically Halloween costumes), but it's so much easier to make your own. You just wrap a flat sheet around you like you would a towel when you get out of the shower. Pin it at the intersecting spot and toss the remainder over your shoulder. I cut my sheet in half so it would fit me. (I used a twin sheet). Then I got vine-like stuff from the craft store, made a headpiece and wrapped some up my leg so I looked like a Greek Goddess! There also was a lot of participation at this social, so I think it's a great idea!
Oh, and colored or themed sheets are much more interesting than boring white sheets.

the pikes at our school always throw a toga party. they have always been a blast. when we made our togas we did it as a sisterhood event the week before, and everyone came up with different themed togas, one was dorthy, someone had a school girl toga, i made a 70's toga. but instead of using sheets we went to walmart and bought material. it was really fun!!

Exchanges are only with the members in the same chapter. So the Iota Gammas recently had an exchange with the brothers of Phi Delta Theta from the UCI chapter. Btw, we all went out to Dave & Buster's for a late lunch/early dinner and then played video games afterwards. We had a nice turn out. I can't wait to see the pictures.
Socials can be for any Phi Sig with another Greek organization. Something like that..hehe.

Hi Jenny,
Our big annual social is done at Halloween time. We usually do it with the same fraternity, kind of a tradition. It is called Heaven and Hell. We usually do it in a two story house so the girls can decorate the top as heaven and the boys can decorate the bottom as hell. Each organization provides food, beverages, and decorations for their room. It is pretty fun. Plus, it's a costume party, so you have built-in conversation.
I know this was already mentioned for sunshine, but it always lifts up our girls spirits. We give each member a paper with all the ladies names on it, and they have to write something nice about that person. We try to make it non-superficial by saying you can't use words such as nice, cute, ext. you have to really think about what this person offers as a sister and let her know that you appreciate her.
Hope this helps some.
Hugs,
Suzanne

Mixers
So, I am on the social committee here at Gannon, and we were looking for ideas for mixers with other fraternities (sororities)....
They don't have to be party ideas... they could be, but non-alcoholic ones like a philanthropy day have been suggested

Thetagammachica check out the social forum, there are tons of questions and ideas there.
Here's a few ideas since the superbowl is over you can have a sports theme mixer, a Valentine Day Dance party for seniors, toy drive for children in hospitals or less fortunate children.
Don't forget to check out the social forum.

Hey I'm social for Zeta Eta Chapter and VP of the Greek Social Council so I've got lots of ideas!!
Here in Ottawa it's pretty easy in the winter because we have Winterlude and the Rideau Canal (World's largest skating rink)
We had a Westren Mixer during recruitment where we had apple bobbing, line dancing, mexican/westren food. Everyone wore jeans and cowboy hats. It sounds corny but we had lots of fun.
Another idea is having a mixer with a someone besides a fraternity or another sorority, next week we are having a mixer with our school's lacrosse team and we are going to be playing either frisbee golf or ultimate. I like to mix up atheltic, or more energetic mixers, with less energetic ones so the girls really feel like they have variety.
We are looking into taking self-defense lessons or yoga with a couple of the sororities and tomorrow night we are going skating on the canal with the Omegas.
Hope some of those ideas help!

If you have any questions on any of them, don't be afraid to ask!
Congratulations on your new position!
