Sorry, I'm not raggin on your mum here, this is just a general comment, but I never understand why those that hate GLO's so much bother going to the trouble to make an anti-sorority/fraternity with letters and all just to make fun of them. To me, it shows that the person/people care about GLO's in one way or another (maybe they were burned by a certain chapter?). But if you really hate them and don't care about them, why go to all the trouble to let everyone know. If you really didn't care you'd let the organizations be and leave them alone.

NO KIDDING! Being CA and alum chapter president pretty much makes me AXO 24/7 -- although I am retiring as ACP next week. Sad as I have enjoyed my two years, but being CA is where I need to focus. I really love working with the collegiates. Alums are hard to work with -- if you can get people together, they all have differing ideas to the point of not being able to come to middle ground. Of course I can't stand dealing with those who don't value the sorority like I do -- many say "I am not in college anymore" -- funny, I wish I could find a way to make them trade in all their life-time buddies who are sisters and the only reason they met was because AX. "Oh, you aren't in college anymore and you don't think AX has done anything for you -- okay, please check-in Sarah, Emma, Kate, and Lauren.....they were just loaners!"

it's weird to hear all of this
because as long as i have been on this earth
it's been established that i would be Greek
my entire family is Greek
when we got to family reunions, everyone is sporting their letters somehow
the babies in our family have those 'A XYZ loves me!' bibs and t-shirts
in fact, the biggest fight that our family has is when someone goes against the grain
and joins a sorority not made popular by the family

we have a list going
we have 10 NPC groups
we have 6 IFC groups
we have 2 NPHC groups

and GOD forbid that you join a sorority that isn't NPC, IFC, or NPHC. . .it's just not done

Ok - your family and my family need to get together to see who has more people in the greek system. I can't think of all of the fraternities and sororities those from my step-mom's side of the family are in, but I can tell you that my father and older brother are both Sigma Nu's (dad went to Mount Union and bro went to TCU) and my mother and I are both ZTA's (both from Stetson as well). My little brother goes to military school (VMI) and they did away with fraternities a long time ago, but wouldn't you know Sigma Nu was founded at VMI . I have 2 more step brothers, but they're not in college yet but I'm sure they'll join a fraternity. My step mom's side of the family consits of 6 children (including her) and they were all in a greek org. as are their spouses. I guess you could say that my family bleeds greek life.

On a side note, my chapter's General Advisor is a 13th generation ZTA!

yes, ilovemyglo was a plethora of knowledge for us all (however, i got a 100% on my new member test, thanks!)

i think it's sad when ppl (especially relatives) talk bad about greek life....my parents are uber cool with it (mom is great about her "agd mom" key chain), but my grandfather says all it's promoting is drinking and sex. uh.....no, but thanks for playin'.....just frustrating to hear that. some people are really and truly missin out of either the greek system in their life, or in the life of someone close to them. my mom lives through me and my sister's sorority stories since she never joined one in college. she totally wishes she had now.......makes for nicer stuff at christmas and b-days, though

but, my sister and i have hopefully started a wonderful greek tradition for our family.....many aopi and agd legacies to come!!!

That is amazing!!! I am also the first "Greek" GIRL in my family, but the second person to join a GLO. My dad is a DU.

I hope to have a daughter that will become a Pi Phi , but if not, I hope my children choose to go Greek.

I never saw myself joining a sorority, but now I wonder how I ever lived with out them

Uh, doesn't that put her back to about the 1500s? Or am I thinking of generation wrong? (ie. I'm one generation, my mom is a 2nd generation, grandmother 3rd, etc?)

My thoughts also. That is how I would think of "generation" - me, my mother, my grandmother, etc.

When I was looking for a job, my mom said that if I'd put half the effort into my search as I did into the fraternity (advising 3 positions and working to re-establish the local alum club) I'd have found a job in no time.

I think she was just joking....

That's pretty young...

I'm guessing "13th generation" means she has 12 relatives - mother, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, cousins, etc. - who joined ZTA before she did. Not really "generation" in the genealogy sense.

Ah... good point. I knew I was probably thinking of it wrong... I blame the family historian in me

Bumping this up...

I get that with APO and sometimes I feel like I'm on every committee because when people need something APO related they know I'll do it.

But we have a lot of brothers who are overly APO happy, so it's fun!
