Cool The Little Lyons Cub Arrived!

As most of you know, little baby Lyons was about 2 weeks overdue when I went into the hospital on Monday (3/10) to have labor induced. Unfortunately, the induction process was completely unsuccessful and by noon on Tuesday, we made the decision to delivery via Ceasarean Section and by 1:12 PM, our son made his appearance into the world!

Here are the details:

Name: Avner David Lee Lyons (pronounced as 'Ahv-ner')
Birthday: March 11, 2003 @ 1:12 PM
Weight: 7 pounds even
Height: 19.5 inches
Chest: 13.5"
Head: 13"

In Hebrew, Avner means 'His Father's Light'. In the Bible, Avner was a general in King Saul's army. Jon's maternal great-grandfather and paternal grandfather are named Herbert. My paternal grandmother's English name is Gertrude. Gertrude & Herbert both mean 'warrior' or 'soldier', which is where the biblical Avner fits in to the naming scheme. Additionally, Jon's other maternal great-grandfather went by the name Abe (hence, the "a" name).

David is my maternal grandfather and it is traditional in Jon's family that the firstborn child is given the middle name of Lee. Avner is a seventh-generation Floridian, which makes his daddy very proud!

Recovery has been pretty good (considering I have nothing from which to compare) and I'm already driving a bit and off of all painkillers (yeah!). Avner is doing quite well - nursing like a real champ and for the most part, has a very calm disposition.

The four-legged children have been absolutely wonderful, very interested in the baby and gently protective.

We see changes in him every day and are fascinated by the changes he's made in us and our relationship with him and each other.

Back to being a 'mom'. Hope to be back online on a regular basis in the next few weeks.
