Ranking
My D said that after the visits, they ranked as follows: 13 houses ranked #1, without regard to order, remaining 5 ranked 2-6. Is that how they do it when you preference 7 - 7 ranked #1, and then 2 - whatever?

Am I understanding this correctly uofi doesn't provide busses for pnms? wow that's crazy. How do the rho grammas (whatever they are at uofi). Keep the girls together if they're wandering all over? Iowa busses girls to central stops and a pi chi gets off with each group and escorts the group to the houses. Uofi is so spread out!
On another note I'm hoping to hear good news from my coworker about her daughter!

My co-workers dd had a great time and got invites back for 10 houses several that have some high school friends. She's very happy and knows cuts can be heavy!

After open house, everyone has separate schedules so there's really no need to keep the girls together. IIRC, you get your schedule from your Gamma Chi before the parties start with instructions on where to meet back after all the parties are done so you can meet with you Gamma Chi to rank. I believe there's also designated classrooms where you can take a break if you'd like, but you are really free to do whatever during your breaks.
Regarding bus issues, I honestly don't think buses would be any improvement. The quad & academic buildings are very much in the middle of everything that you'd have to go around them to get to Champaign or Urbana. I feel like it would take just as long on the bus than it would walking, unfortunately.
God bless the PNMs who had Alpha Xi Delta followed by Delta Zeta (or vice versa) on their schedules, lol
ETA: JK--Sigma Kappa and Delta Zeta are the farthest apart--1.3 mile walk per Google.

When I was there, it was five minutes between open house rounds (when the order of houses made sense), ten between first and second invite rounds, and fifteen between prefs. There were campus busses you could catch if you *really* had trouble walking it, but as lovespink88 said, they wouldn't save you any time...maybe just some blisters or sweat.
And of course, as an active, you could try to guess which chapters the PNM's had just come from if they were late ;-)

LOL I was thinking about this as I typed my last post. Heck, you didn't even have to guess--a lot of times PMNs offered the info on their own since they wanted you to know why they were late!

Looking forward to hearing how recruitment at Illinois is this year. I actually don't have any rec girls going through this year. My 3 pref parties were close. I had my house right off the quad in Urbana and then 2 houses right of the quad in Champaign. I had a lot of friends running all over campus though. Some of the houses are so far from each other, and imagine not knowing your way around campus and getting lost.

I had three prefs in Champaign, but during first invite, I had a long walk and was late to a chapter, and the woman who had to host me was NOT happy that I showed up to interrupt her break.

Second Invite (our philanthropy day) starts at 3:45 due to the football game this morning.
Good luck greenteagirl, uofi's daughter, uofimom's daughter and scrapcat's friends daughter! (And we'd love to hear updates once you do!!)

D was invited back to 5 houses - not the exact 5 she wanted, but she shook off the initial disappointment and ended up being very happy with her philanthropy visits. She preferenced her top 3 and is crossing her fingers.

Great to hear she was able to focus on what she did have and enjoyed herself! Crossing my fingers that she gets to see her favorites today!
